A thought. How about if you had to pay a small fee to join fabs. - ten pounds say. Would that not out a lot of fakes if they had to pay something to join?

Sadly not they'd still pay but probably reduce the number. Remember fab is successful because it's free!!

Indeed but where there is no disincentive for fakes and timewasters you will get loads of them.

I did wonder if a fee which didn't price genuine people out but operated as such a disincentive might be worthwhile.

Swinging heaven charge to even reply to messages and put up pics. Hence why they don't have a big following like fab. Don't get me wrong fabs got its problems but it's the best of the bunch.

No as fakes have money too and it would be cheap entertainment for them.

Then you'd have single guys in the forums moaning they'd paid a tenner to join and still had no meet

I think somewhere in between could be a good compromise. After all, the majority of users pay for gold or silver membership, often around a fiver a month. Maybe free membership is limited down in terms of functionality - can't post in forums, can't message people for example? This would give free users the ability to still see how great the site is and how much it has to offer, allowing them to decide if they should pay a small fee for the other facilities.

This however won't reduce number of fakes as already stated. The only thing which will make a small dent in this is to do credit /debit card authorisation only for payments and fab won't go down that road.

ther are fakes & timewasters on every internet site going no matter what it is for same go's for trolls there is no way of getting rid of these even if it became a pay site ... i find most fakes are easy to work out .. very rare to come across a time waster but then i use my gut instint and as for trolls and online bullies i just dont bite and leave em to it ..but there no way any site will rid of the un wanted

Most fake accounts I see in my area have site subscription status which means they paid. So making them pay won't stop anything apart from put off genuine people

Will think photo verifications should be done on all profiles within 24hrs of joining. An yes I know some people will shout "can be faked" but it's more effort for fakers to do. Failing that, its the 24hr profiles I find amusing, join on a Friday night when pissed, an never seen again, just clogs up my news feed with new member alerts that don't exist. Auto delete profiles with a certain amount of inactivity wouldn't be a bad thing either

There and to the left a bit

In all honesty and from what I have heard about other sites an obligatory membership fee won't get rid of the fakes and timewasters unless it is set at such a level that it would also deter the genuine users of the site.

In fact I'm not sure there is anything that can be realistically done that would eradicate such users - even things like credit card checks won't do that.

So I've come to accept that it's a hazard that comes with the site and that it's down to my personal discretion and gut instinct to decide whether someone is genuine or not and so far that's worked well.

Maybe Fab could stay free, but offer a premium dating site, but for greater than 2 people - it's hard enough trying to get a match between 1 male and 1 female, mix that up to 4 and add Bi in there and it's a nightmare trying to get a meet organised with a matched couple... So much so we almost deleted our account this weekend due to 3 years of disappointment

I like the idea of A free to join and look site, but you only get the message/forum/cam options if you donate and become photo varified.

Granted it won't stop them all but might a few out.

Having been on other sites and the one already spoken about, I was a founding member, so have lifetime membership, whether you pay or not doesn't make any difference whatsoever. Perhaps if you charged a fee in the hundreds of pounds for a year, then maybe but it would be a very exclusive site!

I think fab works well, I've had more success here than anywhere and as for fakes, with experience you can spot them anyway, usually new, very often join on a Friday or Saturday evening after a drink or two and very often too good to be true.

As for those profiles that are inactive, I disagree. I recently came back from an 18 month break. I didn't hide my profile, just didn't log in. I know several people that have done similar. That would have meant I lost my verifications etc and starting again.

Think an option for people to "take a break" would be a good addition. Would allow people to do just that without loosing anything

£10 is a small amount to pay for a lot of wanking or to find new punters.

Hiding your profile does that.

Exactly.

Hide your profile, change message filters as I have, and you can still continue to use Fab in peace or walk away for a couple of months and all will be there when you return.

Photo verification being made mandatory before you can send a message would be a good option.

You can never stop fakes, but you can limit them a little by doing this.

I can't think of anything else that would help on what is ostensibly a free site like this.

There are profiles with other people's pictures etc. False verifications...do you honestly think mandatory photo verification will make one iota of difference? Fab is a distraction,a minor one now I've retired, if I had to be photo verified I'd leave.

Like I said, it could help limit them a little. You can't stop it, but it may limit them a little bit.

"Would make no difference at all"

It would in all likelihood, make some difference and reduce the fakes a little bit. To say it would make no difference at all seems wide of the mark to me.

Yes it wouldn't stop it completely (nothing will) bit it would probably deter some of them.
