Hi all I'm looking to invest in a corset and I'm looking for a decent place to go in the West Midlands. I've seen a couple of places but it's nice to have a recommendation for these things I think! Does anyone have any good experiences of somewhere in my area?

Never used a shop always bought online so would be interested to know how you get on.

Usually get made to measure on-line. Vollers corsets do a bespoke service. xx

Thanks all. What worries me is messing up the measurements and it not fitting which is why I was wondering if it would be better to go instore and let them do it!

google vollers and then send them a message or phone them with your concerns. they're not at all pushy and being experts - been making nothing but corsets for generations - i'm sure they'll be able to allay them.

Have a look at the Birmingham Bazaar website and go along, they have stalls there that make corsets made to measure

Corsets UK is online and has how-to guides for measuring - and will happily let you return and swap (and return and swap again and again) if you've got it wrong

Have to agree with Femmme, there are many exciting and individual items to be had

Vollers corsets offer a made to measure service, and their corsets are to die for, in terms of quality.

However, they also come at a price.

Made to measure corsets will fit better, especially if one's body is short.

If the OP can make a trip into London, then try fairygothmother. Their staff are very helpful, and they usually have a wide range of different designs and sizes available to try before you buy.

Some styles fit bigger busted ladies better, like those with sweet heart cut, rather than straight cut across the chest.

Apparently the bigger the person, the squidgier she is, and can be squeezed into smaller waist size corsets.

If inexpensive ones you are after, then corsets-uk is great online shop!

Hope this helps, have fun.

Meschantes based in Arizona do fantastic custom made corsets. I got my underbust waist trainer from there. If you want something heavy duty I'd recommend them, but you need a bit of patience. For every day kit Corsets UK have a good choice and are reasonably priced

I wear corsets a lot and to be honest i just buy fairly cheap ones off ebay, simply because i dont want them to last ages

Wearing them a lot i dont want to be seen in the same ones week in week out for a couple of years, so id sooner buy what i call cheap disposable ones that i wear for 2 or 3 months, throw them away and buy a few more to wear for 2 or 3 months before replacing them again

that way you always have new sets on and not beeing seen in the same outfits month in months out etc

i would never pay loads for a corset simply because i dont want one thats going to last years as i dont want to be wearing the same one for that long

I wear corsets to give myself an instant shape that no diet or exercise can achieve in minutes.

Hence I have a couple of good plain satin ones that fit me well, short on the body, and comfortable to wear for long period of time.

My formal evening wear are tailored for me wearing a corset, as I cannot find anything off the peg that fits.

I have been advised by the ladies at fairygothmother etc. that one should strap herself in not too tightly at least 30min to 1h before the final tightening, to allow the body to adjust to the pressure etc...

Nowadays, I would wear my corset when doing my make up, before finally tightening it before I put on the outfit.

This is less stressful than trying to put it on right first time, as I tend to get very hot and sweaty while doing myself up.

Hope this helps.

I love corsets uk - online. They have "Corset of the Day" at absolute bargain prices. The ones on their website are excellent quality. They also sell on eBay but they are not the same quality as their waist training ones on their own website.

Vollers are amazing but the cost is prohibitve for me. Would certainly use them for a special occassion investment though.

I too am a fan of UK Corsets, they do made to measure, or measure yourself, the description of how to measure yourself online is really helpful in getting the right fit, and as other have said above me, you can return if not right, good luck x

Bespoke/made to measure corsets cannot be returned as far as I am aware.

Vollers/corset-uk will accept return and refund etc...

Try a new corset on wearing a T shirt, as advised by Vollers, and if it does not fit, you can return it and get a different size/style etc.

Vollers corsets are excellent and perfect for waist training. I've been waist trainng for years and could on a good day achieve a 19" waist (had a baby last year so not quite there again). Other good names to look out for are Axfords, Snobz and Miss Katie. Corsets_uk are very cheap and fine for "fashion" corsets IMO but the dont give the same sting and pinch that the others do, maybe it's the masochist in me but i need that bit of pain!
