Our son is a genius with computers ect. He's back from uni and wanting to improve our broadband speed.

He's asking for lots of info. At a previous address he managed to find everyone's internet history.

Is there anyway we can clear everything and we don't just mean on each device we mean everything as if anyone can track it he can.

Can we also rename our devices?

When using computer whichever browser you are using use it in private mode, or secret mode, you access this by clicking on settings when you have opened tge browser, when using this method, no files, cookies, page histiry are stored. To erase everything now, go into browser settings and click on 'clear history, cookies, cache' then restart computer.

And yes you can rename, also why not have a seperate account on the computer for each of you, with passwords for each account.

Having a separate account won't help if he's an admin. Admin accounts have full access to all files and folders.

I would suggest using Chrome in incognito mode - this is good practice for numerous reasons. If you use something like Chrome on another PC, it will import your account details and history. I have a friend who was fired for this reason, since his history appeared on a work PC.

I had this problem, I have 2 son's with degrees in IT. One suddenly decided to sort out my PC for me. He was going through the pictures on desktop, I,m on the sofa squirming with embarrassment. He suddenly exclaimed " here's a picture of a penis" It was a pic of my former FWB s cock. I managed to talk my way out of it by saying I had downloaded it to send to my sister as a joke. I was praying the other pictures I had on it were in the recycle bin! Lol XXX

If you use shift-delete, it will delete things entirely rather than send them to the recycle bin. Items in the bin can still be seen - even deleted items can be recovered if you know what to do.

You want the bad news or good news.

Good news is: private browsing hides your browsing in that no cookies stored etc.

Bad news: if he is a proper whizz and goes snooping he will relatively easily find your browsing history.

Easy to delete cookies but thumbnails etc will be stored. If you want more info get back to me

Unfortunately if he is any good with software then you can never truly hide your history even if you smashed your devices.

OP, yes you can rename your devices.

What do you mean by track? Do you mean you want to know if he's looked at your Internet history? Wouldn't it be easier just to not let him look at your computer?

If your Internet is slow, it could be numerous different things anyway.

Option B - get one of us to fix it for you!

Thanks for those who've tried to help. He's not looking through 'our devices' but he'll be able to see the household history with the right info.

Stands to reason we don't want him finding anything re swinging or porn really.

As relative technophobes I'm not sure we can prevent him finding this stuff by reading your posts sadly. Ps. We don't download stuff it's just browsing ect

You can clear the history.

Go to Settings

Click Safari

Click Clear history and website data

All browsing history will be deleted

Move any photos to the cloud

Try freeware like cc cleaner which clears your browsing history.

Or uninstall your browsers and reinstall a new one like Firefox or opera.

Always browse in private mode x

Neighbours will need the wifi password to access so unless it's been given to them they can't use your wifi. Personally I would keep prying eyes off my IT stuff. I can see some very red faced parents here and what if the lad tells his mates. Doesn't bear thinking about the consequences
