It never fails to amuse me when someone describes themselves as "professional" on here but can't even spell it correctly! How can they be?

But would you put the above as your status/title on here? You would probably find words to describe you that you could spell.... Especially when it's a one-word description!

I hope that wasnlt meant to be as patronising as it sounds?

Find words that I can spell, well that would limit me somewhat.

So why does it boither you whether someone can spell or not?

It's not about being a good or bad speller it's about choosing a word that best describes you and making sure you can at least spell it. If you were unsure of the spelling of a one-word description of yourself surely you would find one you knew was correct?

Or maybe not.

Bit presumptuous maybe?

Must be some dyslexic people who feel adding whatever best describes them and hope they've spelt it correctly and if not, those reading it have the humility to accept the little matter of letters in the wrong place.

Apparently 10% of the British population are dyslexic. 4% severely so.(so says google)

I don't know what percentage of British are swingers but isn't it weird so many of them are dyslexic ?

Maybe an investigation should be done into the obvious link between the two xxx

Maybe the bad spelling could be put down to people typing messages on iphones and other mobile devices, not the easiest of things to type on?

If your really bothered about peoples spelling in postings why don't you encourage people to use a web browser like firefox with an spell checking add on?

Im not dyslexic, just a crap speller, also have held down a very successful career which I have produced many a presentation, report etc with wonderful spelling.

I just simply do not think its important to spell correctly in some areas of my life.

I do beleive this topic has been down to death on these forums though, thread searches can be easily down no matter how professsionall you are

Think you need to look at the definition of professional.

Says nothing about being able to spell.

Real professionals however (not white collar office workers), are less likely to use a "free" site and are more likely to be using paid sites where the upper classes hang out with their up scale private penthouse parties, holiday villas, swinging cruises etc, mixing it with others of the type.

Im quite literate but some words like the i before e rule slip my mind but if I'm not sure about the spelling of a word I look it up. I can tell the difference between a bad spelling and a typo.

I think learning about the three there's and your and you're is important. But then again the written word isn't as important to some as others. I certainly wouldn't make it my business to bring anyones bad spelling to the forums attention. Thats just demeaning and callous.

On pages such as these, my opinion os that it makes no difference at all, how someone gets their spelling, grammar or punctuation wrong.

After all, I'm not checking anyone's educational values when I meet them.

However, if I was to meet any of these people in real life, and I found they couldn't spell, or punctuate within their professional lives, or relied on Text Speak, then I would go elsewhere, as their attitude would cause me to think, "if they can't sell themselves correctly, how much confidence do they show about doing their job or service properly?"

Amazingly, British Industry and Commerce loses £41 Billion worth of business each year to poor use of the English language!
