No, far from it. I'm not a dom, but I have seen enough men on here who claim to be a dom, who clearly don't understand the trust involved, who just think it's a good line to use to be able to tie someone up or play rough.

I think you meant me ! I used that phrase in the other post in the lounge. If someone doesn't understand sub/DOM why dismiss it as being a weak woman and a man on a power trip? Yes ok there are many like that but look beyond that if you can and understand that it's deeper than that some.

I didn't even read any of your posts in there.

It was a quip based on the fact that any bdsm thread usually descends into "true dom" this or true sub that.

There are no impartial ways of assessing a dom or sub, other than do they work for you.

I am always surprised by how much time is spent in print criticising other people's behaviour for not complying to type.

My experience is that everyone conducts there relationships differently.

I have seen play between people which I thought horrific but the people in it loved it. I have actually come to like that play. I have seen what I considered tame play but the people in it thought they were hard core. Some people use safe words some don't. Some like to use a lot of toys some are Gorean or 50s wife. Others like their relationship based around sex, or being 'used' others prefer a relationship based around protocol. Some see it as play others as lifetime commitment. There is endless variety in how a D/S relationship can work.

In my mind D/S is complex and fluid and I have not mentioned people who switch or in poly relationships.

Therefore I concentrate on my own relationship not others. In a D/S you are dealing with others emotions and I think as a dom it is easier to get things wrong than right.

I would suggest it is more important to put information in the public domain to enable people to make decisions rather than embarking on criticising types.

Sometimes discussion of dom and subs is a bit like a Top Gear discussion of what is a 'real car' and what is not.
