Gift etiquette.

Hi all

I was just wondering what people's opinions were on giving/receiving gifts on a first playdate with someone.

The gentleman in me feels that it's right to give the lady some type of gift but wondered if it could be perceived as "payment"?

I was thinking particularly of a small bunch of flowers (not roses) but would appreciate people's input.

Thanks.

Depends on where you are meeting, if meeting at mine for example, I think a nice bottle of wine would be nice, after all I am entertaining and also supplying drinks etc, just my opinion of course

Thank you. A mixed response.

I guess there is no right or wrong answer. Though a dildo may make a nice gift.....

Surely turning up is a gift according to some other threads

I don't like receiving gifts off of sexual partners. If you give once, they may expect every time and more expensive gifts.

Booze and nibbles are not normally conceived as payment.

I'd find flowers a bit weird but if they're hosting wouldn't be unreasonable to take a bottle of wine or something.

Something to share, like wine, would be acceptable.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I had a guy used to bring wine. That's fine by me as we're going to share it. Anything more would make me uncomfortable.

*cringe*

That's my feeling on it. Wine is fine if we're going to share but no to gifts.

Being given a gift on a first fab date would make me feel uncomfortable. If it was an ongoing thing that would be different.

Totally! Anything else is a no no unless it is regular and it's either Bday or Xmas, as I have had a few gifts from someone I was meeting for over 3 years.

Plus I always ask what someone drinks and make sure I buy it in for them, so it is a two way thing for me.

If anyone asks for any kind of gift, then that is out of order

A meet turned up at my door for an initial coffee with a bunch of beautiful flowers.... just the type of person he is... thought it was very thoughtful... I don't expect anything tho...

If its a meet at someones. If bring a bottle or two and would expect the same in return.

Manners doesnt have to cost.

If we had an evening meet and someone brought a bottle of wine we wouldn't think it was weird. It probably shows that the guy has actually thought about being decent and polite etc rather than just turn up expecting results.

I guess you could just bring something that you might use together? wine, cream whatever you guys fancy... that way you could bring a gift without the other person feeling awkward!

I have once given someone a chocolate egg as we had talked about it before and given someone a birthday massage... but never proper gifts tbh

Interesting discussion guys. Thank you. I guess if you turn up with flowers and say "please love me" the response will be different from "thanks for the fuck".

God no, not on a first play meet unless it was a bottle of wine as a thanks for cooking for me kind of thing.

Come to think of it even from a regular fb a gift would feel wrong for me!
