Why do people do it ?

I have been talking to a couple on here for weeks, chatted to her on the phone, (yes she was female) finally arranged to meet at their place.

Got the address, drove 40 miles this evening to the front door, knocked, no reply, sent a text saying i was outside, got a reply saying .... come in we are not coming to the door.

At that point even i smelled a rat and knocked again, and a very nice lady of 70+ came to the door and asked who i was and what i wanted ?

quick excuse about wrong address and a threat that she would call the cops and i left on reasonable terms after a story of wrong addresses and Sat Nav confusion etc.

sent them / her a text. tried to ring them, and low and behold their Fab profile has now gone !

i am NOT naming and shaming, and i am not that surprised ....

I just wondered why people do it ! sending me to some poor old lady and telling me to walk in !

Should always be careful of things like that. If arranging a meet like that always ask them to hang a pair of knickers in the upstairs window. That way you know it's been put there by someone who you have been contacting. I also have other ways of filtering out the genuine from the time wasters when sending messages by text. I have caught quite a few people out that way

Some people are just morons!

Don't let it put you off, there are good genuine people on here.

Definitely vet them a bit better

But if you had spoken to them for a while, it's hard to have done anything else. Especially as you'd spoken to her on the phone.

I've heard very similar stories from other men, one guy even got beaten up and robbed when he turned up at a supposedly single females house.

That was very unkind and the poor old lady who was chosen, unless she's like the witch we have next door!

Always best to have a social in a neutral place first than going to some strangers house.

I dodged a similar bullet last night with a 'couple' in Preston who chatted very plausibly for ages and eventually said let's meet (about 20 miles away), until the exact moment when I said "OK, mind if I phone you first for confirmation?" Surprise surprise, they went offline permanently.

I'd love to know what other methods people use to filter out time wasters?

Hi mate i feel so sorry for you.

As a guy and sending out loads of messages a day to people as well like you do i guess.

To get a reply and a meeting to you was well pleased.

Then to go all that way and have that done is ggggrrrr.

Cant say the word's on here as get kick off but i bet you said a good few yourself.

Thing is now who do you trust on here i know that seems unfair but it's true.

I had it happen to me last year not as bad as that but like it.

personally I would name and shame, this kind of behaviour can be dangerous it could have been a complete nutters house or even worse they could have sent a complete nutter to some poor old ladies house (not saying you are a nutter but there are some about)

There would be no point naming and shaming - even if it wasn't against the rules - if they've gone UNLOS.

Had his a few times, which is why I will now only travel for verified users.

That is discusting.probably was a bloke with a couples profile. I can usually tell who is genuine. Some couples seem to send lots of texts then block you or vanish. But good luck for future meets

As a previous poster said we now only meet at clubs...that ways if you don't click in person everyone has chance to find someone else...

I know if that happened to us we'd be livid probably post there phone number in revenge .....let them have a little hassle....but they should be shamed especially as you'd have proof...

Firstly u for driving the 40miles after trusting these people.

Secondly the old woman cuz god knows what sort of person u cld've hve been. She was acting on a scared response incase u attacked her in so many different ways.

This is an extreme case.....and I've heard of a few similar on here from others.

Thankfully I've never been caught out myself in six years plus on the site with a couple of profiles. And that includes a fair number of meets where I've not really done my due diligence.

Maybe I've been lucky....but there is a message for all of us in the OPs experience.

That sucks! I've also had my time wasted by couples since joining a couple months ago, too many in fact. Nothing that extreme but this is another example that not only single men can be time-wasters/dicks (as the forums would make you think) but also couples.

Maybe not, but bare in mind you are female and most guys of my age have to make this sort of effort for meets, i have done so in the past and it has been fun. This was not.

As has been said i cannot report the profile has gone (not just me being blocked).

Fake couples profiles are a real pain, in most cases they would seem to be single guys but some couples do seem to get their fun from the wind up. Best ways to filter them out we've found is asking for a pic of them together or a phone call between the ladies. That's why we prefer clubs.

I think it's unusual for a couple to invite a total stranger to their house, and to agree to go sounds potentially unsafe. If someone you've never met does this again, be suspicious. Perhaps arrange to meet half-way in a neutral place, so you are not travelling so far. And do check verifications. If they have been on Fab for a considerable time and they only have cam verifications there is probably a reason for that.
