I've just been on 3 days of training to learn how to manage pool plant. Spa pools are really high risk in terms of safe hygiene. Suggest anyone buying one really learns how to keep them safe. They are fun but google legionella or cryptosporidoum... Not sure I'll be jumping into the tub at VA so quickly now!

im mixed about these - see i always shower never bathe - (well an odd time i do share a bath ) - but i go through phases where the thought of all that is in the water overwhelms me and i just cant go near swimming baths , jacuzzis etc - but then there are those horny times at clubs where i literally dive in

We have one. Well worth the investment if you use it regularly - and hell yes, fun is a regular thing. It's also lovely to be in late at night when it's dark and cold, when you're lovely and warm, just chatting away and de-stressing. Superb!

We are on are second one (lazy spa Vegas) its sturdy and have it set on 4 inch insulation boards so it keeps warmer longer. Also plumed in a hot tap to the outside so it takes around a hour to wash out and fill up and away we go . cant understand why you would pay over 4 k for a tub that also needs a secure and frost proof shed to keep it on so you don't kill it in the winter. Have it covered with a nice secure gazebo so no prying eyes . It cost around 1.50 to fill it and chemicals work out to around 10p a day . hours of fun

We have had a Lazy Spa Vegas for over a year now and and use it 2 or 3 times a week all year round (when we are both home). The previous owner of our house had a rigid hot tub,so we have the concrete base and power supply in place if we ever want to get another. Tbh though the Lazy Spa works perfect for us so we might no even bother with another rigid.

I actually own a hot tub company (nationwide pool and spa) I would definitely recommend a proper tub over a lay z spa any day. I fix tubs all day long and get loads of enquiries about broken lay z spas. Yes there more expensive but all the inflatable ones are is a paddling pool.with a heater, cost a fortune to run cause no insulation and pop ate the first sight of something sharp.

(We also repair and service tubs too ??)

A friend of mine has a Lazy Spa. Constant maintenance of PH levels, foam and and and. Nice for the first couple of days without any chemicals. After that play is no fun as the chemicals dry a woman up (they do with her). Shame really but no choice but to keep it at the right levels.

Sounds to me she is setting it up wrong, should never go in let alone play without treating the water first then leave for 24hrs cheak and read treat as needed, then should be fine, as for foam you don't get it if you go in naked lol but easy sorted

I would imagine the Lazy spa but the £2000 to £7000 you save would pay for a few Lazy spas and running costs for a long while.

It depends what you want.

I am intending on putting a proper base down when I get round to building a garden room...

Had the Monaco. Paid £800 all in brand new 2 years ago and worth every penny. Although I'd recommend filling it up with hot water as it takes abit longer than the claimed 24 hours to get to temperature ! And careful not to over inflate the cover! I made that mistake and ended up with a big balloon instead of the beat and tidy disk it should have been. £50 for replacement! Oh and personal preference but found bromine over chlorine was much less chemically on skin and smell and easier to control the correct pH levels etc. They need to be correct or you'll end up needing a new pump and filter using hard water. Hope this helps x

We have the Intex Octagonal and it's great, absolutely love it. We bought it to see if we would actually use it before buying a proper one. I think as and when if it was to go wrong as all the experts keep say, then we'd probably buy another. It's nice to be able to move it to different parts of the garden as you choose as well.

As for the chemicals, we use Suds online chlorine tablets, put 2 in when we first fill it after cleaning and the 1 a week until you need to clean it again. The levels are spot on every time.

And lastly...yes, lots of fun

Fresh tap water needs cleaning when put in our tub. First it's a Floctuant then oxidization. Then balance ph. Then adjust alkalinity. Then measure dissolved solids. When filled, a tub water can last years.

So we are on our second hot tub over a ten year period and so can offer a reasonable insight into the reality of ownership. First thing to talk about is the myth that all Chinese hot tubs are rubbish and that only American and Canadian tubs can be trusted. This is bullshit and I can tell you that almost all hot tubs use Chinese components and are assembled elsewhere. Our second hot tub is Chinese with a balboa control panel and we are entering year 8 of ownership with only regular maintenance needed - no failures, no faults and significantly less to buy than an American hot tub of the same spec.

1) whatever type of hot tub you are getting, make sure it is accessible and preferably no more than s couple of steps from your door. It might look nice to have a grand gazebo at the end of the garden with a great view but the best time to use a hot tub is when it is freezing cold and a hike down the garden is no fun at all. You will soon appreciate only having to make a quick hop to dive into a warm and bubbly heaven.

2) don't get a hot tub with the thought that kids and or family:friends might use it. Buy it for yourselves and only buy it if you are a sensual and intimate couple. Being naked together away from the TV, iPads and computers is truly quality time. Time in the hot tub feels completely different at different times of the day and it can go a long way to reconnecting in the evening after a day apart or planning your weekend with a morning start on a Saturday.

3) hot tubs need looking after and prevention is better than cure. A hot tub weather cover for your lid will lengthen the life of the lid by two or three times - and the lids are really expensive, whereas covers are not. Prepare for the ozonator (£60+) and main circulation pump (£100) to need replacing every couple of years. Chemical balancing is important, but don't try to micromanage it. Depending where you live, your water will have its own signature in terms of hardness and ph/alkalinity. Get in the right ball park and you will soon get used to managing the water. Wearing swim suits or any type of clothing will really fuck up the balance so best be naked

4) you are inevitably going to have sex in the hot tub, but once the Mrs has never ending bouts of thrush and/or bacterial vaginosis - that novelty will soon wear off. The chemicals in the cleanest of hot tubs are not good for a precious and delicate vagina.

5) change your filter every couple of weeks and keep your water balanced and clean and you should only need to change the water every six months.

Hope that helps. I was bored anyway and happy to offer a bit of advice for any prospective hot tubbers.

Years? I don't think so.

Hot tubs are relatively small water volumes and over time the water absorbs chemicals and gunk and can only hold out for so long. We lasted seven months once with minimal use - but four to five months is about the max I would now go for.

Fresh water feels nicer and is much easier to keep in balance.
