Had this conversation recently..

When I am in the company of a fabber, at a party , I become "Redunicorn" .. I am still me but I loose all inhibitions and insecurities. Do the kinky sexual things I would never do.

Is it the same for you ??

Hmmm, no, probably not. I am pretty much the same wherever/whatever.

This is sometimes an issue at work!

Not sure i have any ego.

The real me is always me but the way I present to the world depends on who I'm with what I'm doing what I wish to achieve and when working if I can convince others to share a common vision. Wonder if that's more about expectations and conventions rather than ego.

If I'm with someone significant then I am far more open far less guarded than I would usually be on here but maybe that is more about trust than ego.

Yes. Virginie is my alter ego. She goes out trying to be gorgeous, sporting a glow in the dark strap on and has men falling at her feet.

Me I do boring things like be mum, work, go to the pta meetings, cut the grass, walk the dog in my pjs, help with homework, laundry, cook, shop, see friends, see family.........

Clearly this is where I've been going all wrong in the clubs. At my next visit to Quest I'll sport my sexy flip flops and Rab-C-Nesbit string thonglike Borrat vest come mankini!

Depends if your friends know or not I find. Mine are cool with my shenanigans as long as I don't bother them. So I guess I am just being me.

It's quite amazing isn't it how you can change ... funnily enough an old meet messaged me the other day to say how lovely it was to see how my confidence has grown

When the hold ups, heels and lippy go on, i am rachel. Bold as brass and twice as ugly.

When in male mode, I am quite shy.

I was thinking about this recently, I reckon I'm honest but fab does bring out a side, naughtier, than anyone who knows me but not that I'm on here would believe

Perhaps having an alter ego is just another layer of protection from emotional connection. By allowing us to create our own image of how we wish people to see us we boost our own confidence take chances that we would not otherwise take and go to places that we may not be brave enough to explore without an additional layer of protection that an alter ego may give us.

But if we wear that alternative ego is it just another way of separating our inner self from the world...another wall to hide behind to protect us from people or things that could harm us if we allowed them to get to close and see the real person hiding behind the persona we show to others.

It can be easy here to hide behind walls..easy anywhere to do that... But if those walls are simply to shut out reality or even escape it for a while when does the pretence of that alter ego crash into the real world and if it ever does how much damage can it cause.

Maybe we should all just accept each other as we are...it may make us all happier if we trust more and hide or pretend less..

Aaaaah a long story.... I've made some great "real" friends here too. People I wouldn't have ever known had it not been for fab. But sometimes it's easy to forget other people also are here for escapism and when real life and fantasy mingle it can get complicated.

Mmmmmm. Angry face. Apologies for apparently making you angry.

It's just one opinion others will have a different view that is wholly valid for their own lives.

I lack much of the insight into the lives of others that may convince me to change my views. Once I was told on here by a girl.."I an no ones". I think it was one of the saddest things I have ever heard. We are all someone's we all belong somewhere we all deserve to be part of something bigger than ourselves. We can all find our own way to whatever that something is.... and at times we will all fuck up when we search for that place that feels like home.

But if we hide behind alter egos all put up walls or barriers or shut ourselves off in whatever way we choose then eventually even our real experiences in the world beyond fab become judged through a prism of the pretence we hide behind to protect ourselves.

We all need to trust those we connect with and here while fab will make us all guarded to some degree without some level of trust in those we meet without some level of intimacy in our interactions all that's left is a mindless fuck....friction then forgotten.

Perhaps that cloak of an alternative persona reduces our true identities leads to others seeing only what we dare to show of ourselves and diminishes us all by our inability to be or give more of ourselves or even take the risk that our real selves are far more inspiring interesting complex and beautiful than we dare ever admit.

No man or woman is an island...no matter how much we may try to be and maybe that alter ego is just another wall to hide behind another island to isolate ourselves on if sometimes the real world feels too much.

No one has any power over us other than that which we allow them to have...and each here can only live their life the way that brings them peace joy love happiness and fulfils their personal dreams. I wonder if hiding behind an alter ego a pretend persona ever allows us to do that.

Again I apologise for bringing out your angry face... the world should be full of more smiles. But if you disagree or think I'm wrong instead of growling at me maybe you could find another way to convince me of your position?
