As the female half, more than one line that shows that you've looked at our profile and think you might match what we're looking for. A bit of character without being weird catches my attention too.

Conversely don't just send small talk messages, they're hard to start a conversation from and a bit dull on their own eg just Hi, how's your weekend been?

I read this a lot and have wondered what the copy and paste messages read like? I like to say most of my messages I've received are very shirt one liners, hey or like your profile, or wanna chat,.... there's a few that make a good interesting statement about something in my profile or from something I've said on the forum and it's worded in such a way that it draws a response.... but they are very few so I'm guessing men and women are not that different on this...both want more than a word or two but most don't give it either. I used to spend too much time composing... but found 99% were just deleted so it's a short message now with some reference to a post or their profile.

That sort of question is fine, nice and polite, but if that's pretty much all the message says you can quickly end up in a conversation that's as much fun as pulling teeth. Interrupted's message is what I'd say was pretty much perfect.

I have received a few decent messages in the past usually about a thread I have posted on or when I had my pictures on show but like others have said, Hi, Hello Smiley face or just a wink are the most common type of message I have received

The best chance of me responding would be to messages that:

a) come with a face pic that I can make you out clearly on

b) are not written in a shouty way (So many are)

c) not an obvious copy & paste

d) not overtly sexual

e) not smalltalky (tired of answering 'good thanks how are you' back to people or being asked what I'm looking for' that's the end of the conversation for me and I delete from there)

f) talking about something in my profile or pictures.

g) their sense of humour matches mine (Best discovered here in the forums as I have recently discovered)

other tips: I LOVE it when a guy is very good at wooing me - I know it's all to get me to meet, but the formality of being wooed, even here, goes a long way! I mean genuinely wooed, I'll know and sense if it's not genuine).

By 'woo' me, I mean, talk to me like you want to make love to me. that'll definitely do it.

Anything really. I've replied to "how was your weekend" from someone with no pics and a 3 word profile lots of times and ended up having a lovely chat. There's a person behind every profile.

Sometimes it ends up with no chat but so what. Zero angst.

Oh I don't know about that, we've had some great meets with guys who live 200+ miles away, but come down this way regularly or who we've met in a club and genuinely mean it when they say they're prepared to travel. In some ways knowing you're not likely to bump into them in the street is quite nice.

That's what we like ....knowing they have bothered to read our profile as they refer to bits in the msg...also prefer a pic so we know if there is an attraction but totally get someone's reservation if they send it in 2nd or 3rd msg dependent on the response to the 1st msg ....
