They may have opened the message and then press "mark as unread".

Don't know. I'm still trying to get past sending a woman a message and getting a reply. However, if I got a reply or was actually first messaged by a woman I wouldn't ignore it .

There could be quite a lot of reasons: some good, some not so much.

I'm sure all of the negative reasons are trying to come to the fore (they have a habit of doing that) so I'll skip those and outline one or two more charitable interpretations:

He might be in company or at work or something and able to occasionally (and perhaps excitedly) check fab, but with never enough time to compose a message.

He might want to spend some time composing exactly the *right* reply so he doesn't mess up this contact. He'll be aware that you can see if the message is marked as read or not and won't want to click it until he has time to reply.

Of course it could just as easily be something else entirely, positive or negative.

Could be so many reasons, and without knowing his personal circumstances there is no one stock answer applicable to all men... even though he sent the initial message he does have a right to change his mind depending on your reply or indeed any number of other reasons totally unrelated to you. Despite him being a single male that has received a response - I don't think after one message he is obligated to give you a reason/response if he is now no longer interested. Good luck
