Thinking of getting a Caravan...

Fook I'm getting older and can't be arsed with camping in tents anymore...

I now face a choice or three and one is should I

buy a caravan or just stay in hotels... I like the social side of campsites etc., so was wondering if anyone went down the caravan route and would either recommend or not as the case may be...???

We were in a similar position had enough of tents been camping for many years. Looked at caravans they are a great alternative, but didn't fancy towing, went for an old but well kept VW campervan love it wished we'd done it years ago, turn up no setting up, handbrake on and crack open the wine, happy days !

a quandary, could you change my mind?

I'm doing my best to never buy a caravan, yes advantage is you can easily go out for the day with the tow car.

I'm a vw camper owner, some trips I don't use camp sites, just find a spot and turn off the engine and its great for day trips. Yes on longer trips using campsites as a base it can be a pain wanting to go out just for a day trip (partial pack up and unpack).

You have to work out the way you want to use the caravan or camper.

We have a motorhome and love the freedom it gives us. Used to have a caravan but couldn't be bothered with all the setting up. Now we just turn the engine off and we are ready.

If you like wandering from place to place get a motorhome. If you like staying on campsites for more than a few days and want the use of the car when you are there then get a caravan.

Near Haverfordwest

I have a motorhome. Done both caravans and motorhomes and obviously pros and cons. Also depends on where you go. UK does not like motorhomes but as it is very few site fees to pay for a ferry crossing lots of people simply go to France. Totally geared for motorhomes there. Regardless of where I am I dont seem to get any sex but I think my perceived decrepitude is against me.

weve been camping in tents all our lives,

a few years ago we was offered an old camper very cheap, so we tried it out, so much easier than a tent more comfort ect, we now have a bigger van and we use it for free camping no campsites just beach carparks and large laybys out in the countryside with the odd campsite visit to stock up van essentials,

the freedom you get with a van is awesome, your garden is where you park it,some of the places we have spent the night are beautiful

It really does appeal to us too but don't have anywhere at home to park a motorhome or caravan. Really need to move to a house with a long drive. Just need a lottery win

You can store them at places for a small fee, it's worth it even if you do have room to park one up as you don't have a big white monstrosity annoying your neighbours, blocking your views and light into your house!

Awe love camping but didn't enjoy putting up and taking down the tent, so looked at caravans. In the end we decided to get a VW camper-van, which is fab - you just pull up on site, pop up the roof and that's your accommodation sorted. Much less hassle than a tent or caravan, and the van will fit in car parking spaces when you're travelling around.

Only disadvantage is that you can't do 4 to a bed. When we meet other swingers camping, we swap and take turns.

I guess that depends on your idea of small fee.

Unfortunately I know more about caravans and the industry that I ever thought I needed to know or wanted to know.

My view is caravans and motorhomes.

I also know that lots of the new vw campers don't meet with gas safety regulations so I'd check up on the before any purchase.
