Question...lots of people get these sorts of crushes, but are they directed at the ACTORS themselves, or merely at the CHARACTERS they portray?

I think mostly the actor/ actress. I guess the role they are playing in the film can determine how sexy they look in it. For example I like Demi Moore in striptease

but in G.I. Jane with a skinhead was much less appealing.
