"Expect at least half the people to not turn up. Go out of your way to make everyone feel included. Have something for an icebreaker if necessary. Keep the venue quiet till the day before and only send it to people who have confirmed "Isn't that the case for any party though plan for and 100 expect 50
I've done a few house parties on a smaller scale so hosting doesn't worry me I just need to make sure I'm circulating well and I'm sure that side will be fine
The venue tip was a good one if no considered though so thanks for that

At the moment I've not said much beyond that I'm lmwabting to look at their venue for a social mixer

My general experience of parties and socials is that if they have lots of small tables with seats all around then it can make for these closed off bubbles. Too much seating also tends to make people get settled and stay put, not circulating. So you almost want enough seating for half the people so there's always people on their feet and milling about.
Try and recruit a hosting team of people who are happy to engage with people they don't know and to introduce them to people who they think might get on with them. That's obviously easier to do if you have a socially active local fab group who know each other.
Fab name badges could help as an ice breaker although it could give the game away to the bar staff

We'd arrived an hour or so after the start so the people who knew each other had grouped off for a catch up. We got some drinks and then wandered around the room looking for a group to join. "Thank you I had thought about the numbers/seating arrangements dilemma already as a learning curvy I've picked up from the previous house parties I've done, but of course it's adapting that on the grander scale to try and get the balance right. Maybe just provide blank 'my name is' stickers and leave the guests to put what they want?

I want to fit in "Yes as this would be my first large event so I think just starting as an evening event to test the waters as I don't see many socials advertised for Doncaster so I'm not sure what interest there would be As yes I'm looking for no play social so looking at vanilla venues to encourage that, was considering a cocktail/mocktail upon arrival and doing the first part of the evening like a cocktail hour to allow people to get introduced and to mingle with some low music to set ambience then as the night moves on having a bit more of a disco element to allow people to dance as let's face it most of us ladies love a good boogie! | |||

"One of the best socials I've been to is the Blackpool weekender. It's a simple formula that works but it's always fab. Usually 3 days. Fri - club visit, Sat - night out round town, sun - drag act. Stay for as long as you wish. Always well attended. There is another one in May, but just Fri and Sat. So why does this work so well? I'd say - good transport links, alot of cheap hotels, a simple, structured model (you can't please every one so don't try, go for the majority. Stick to the plan), plenty of variety, advertise well in advance and a host that is confident and friendly. Good luck and enjoy." When I e hosted my house parties they've been weekend events and usually are very successful and people that have attended have said they'd be interested in a larger event even if only social, which is why I'm considering/looking into it | |||
