Ive noticed that the same comment can be made more than once, but depending upon the person, as to what reaction it receives from others.

Many other people encountered this?

yes

I frequently make a point or comment on a thread that's ignored only to see the same point made by another person later on and responded to by many. It doesn't concern me though.

I also notice that very young, new male posters can make a comment and be absolutely flamed for it while a more established poster will be tolerated.

Tis the nature of the beast.

It happens a lot. I assume it's because people become familiar with each other and respond to the person they know or see on the forum more often. Or perhaps the person they reacted to is more articulate.

I don't post expecting anyone to respond to me though. It's just to voice my opinion.

I think most of the time it depends on how the comment is phrased and how clearly and successfully a point is put across. Drip fed and people are more likely to put their own thoughts and experiences to it - perhaps not the way the poster wishes for it to go. The language used also impacts the responses. And the manner in which the responses are dealt with also shape how they go.

I also think that although comments may appear the same, quite often there are enough differences to alter the response.

Sometimes, yes. It can depend on the person. There was a thread recently and because one poster is quite widely liked and friendly to all they interact with, it went better than a similar one carried out earlier. I also think some posters are more well liked and that can impact it.

I think the forums are basically used for advice and entertainment. I tend to only post if I have a differing opinion (with the hope of either stirring a more entertaining debate or to let others reading it know there are other ways of looking at things). Others enjoy agreeing and affirming their friends views, which of course has its place in any community.

The reality is that, after you've read them for a while, you realise most posts are asking questions that have been asked before. If forumites are a bit lazy these posts can go through several cycles without too much of a reaction. But then the same question comes along again and suddenly it gets jumped on and something made out of it that's either more deep and insightful or more entertaining. That's the way I interpret it

I think those that start threads to maybe wind others up, get attention, or those who are particularly vocal about certain things tend to get picked apart on here.

A rambling reply seems less likely to get a response than the same comment made succinctly.

Also, I've noticed replies that fall in-between a flirty back-and-forth tend to be overlooked too. I assume this is because people just scroll on by and miss them.

I think if some people read a thread and theres lots of agreement going on and sycophantic behavour from all the chummies and the white knights popping in and out to try and win favour with the posters etc. Then when someone posts perfectly reasonable valid opinions about the original thread and some of the posts that may disagree with certain posters. Then they a get turned on and a fight tends to break out against the outsider and their opinion is often ignored and dismissed as wrong as it doesnt fit in with chummies ego massaging of each others posts.

Yes if a woman days it it will generally be taken in the best light/humorously by many men and ignored by those who dissagree because they dont want the public confrontation with a woman and thus hurt thier chances.

Also when i post most of the regulars are aware of my tendency for sarcasm/dry humour and take it as such while newer members get wound up (the amount of moody private messages i get then block then unblocked to send a follow up message then blocked is hilarious)

The forums are all good fun. It's a really valuable tool, above and foremost to learn which people never to meet.

I'm outspoken and will speak my own opinion rather than do what the majority do on here, and just follow the crowd.

For example when threads are stated about cheating, the amount of people that join in and slate cheaters so they look good in the forums, but then they will PM me saying they actually agree with me and would I meet them is hilarious.

I enjoy a good debate, with those who are grown up enough to debate without resorting to making things personal.

The type of people who message you slating your cheating posts and who then allegedly private message you saying the opposite are probably men? And you know that alot of guys in here will post and private message any old shit to try and gain favour of the females.

So obviously those types of posters opinions are farcical and to be ignored.

But the posts from the genuine posters who hold strong personal views on topics like cheating etc are of course going to disagree with threads and posts on topics they feel strongly about.

That doesnt necessarily mean its a personal attack on an individual.

Its people standing up about something they have strong feelings, beliefs and personal opinions on and if this differs from your own? Then obviously you are going to get some stick .

Controversial and posts of a moralistic nature will always cause division in the forums.

If people can't handle being questioned about the nature and content of their threads then I suggest the stick to posting less controversial threads and threads on sensitive issues.

I encourage healthy debating on any controversial subject. What I do object to is personal insults. I have had questions personally directed at me, rather than discussing cheating in general. That, I object to. You do judge men harshly if you think that they post any old shit. Some obviously do, and that is highly noticeable, but some are extremely genuine too.

All the time, the forums are so cliquey. And don't even get me started on the self-appointed forum pilice; never a sadder group have I ever come across. Worst of it is that they don't realise that most people know them as such and disregard them because of it....
