No idea why...just know it's on the list of things to steer clear of whilst pregnant...I guess just better to be safe than sorry...

they do seem to ban a lot of stuff when you're pregnant i remember.

i googled and it seems it is safe, apart from some oils, but some masseurs won't do women in the first trimester because of the risk of miscarriage then, not that massage causes it i think they just want to be cautious (like you said really).

You can stress joints and ligaments as a hormone has made everything more stretchy. Damage is more easily done.

No massage in the first trimester, best to steer clear of aromatherapy oils unless you know what you are doing but after first trimester Swedish massage is fine, deep tissue or sports massage is a no go due to hormones effecting elasticity in muscles and joints. A soothing or erotic massage wouldn't do any harm x

Wheat germ oil was the other oil great for the skin,

maybe New Zealand girls handle pregnancy better as I remember light gentle massages leading to sex for the whole 9 months,

but if you are warned against it, who am I to say

Good luck with your pregnancy

Any carrier oil is fine, just that some essential oils can actually be used to induce miscarriage so to be on the safe side avoid pre blended scented oils unless it states it's safe during pregnancy x

Its not advised to put pressure on the stomach in the first three months.

Plenty of massage places offer pregnancy massages, just need to apply some common sense with the oils and where to apply pressure. People do go a little insane with their precautions these days.

Please do not get a massage before your first 12 weeks.

After that I would advise only having a massage by someone who is trained in pregnancy massage.

If you do decide to go ahead - make sure it's after 12 weeks, lay on your side and not on your stomach and DO NOT under any circumstances massage around the ankle area.

Would also suggest avoid massage around the stomach area unless they are qualified.

You also need to avoid certain aromatherapy oils. Stick with a plain massage oil.

I'm qualified in massage and pregnancy massage - please take my advise seriously.

Sarah
