'Alternative' Appearances - tattoos, funky hair, piercings etc

Through society in general, my husband and I are very aware that our appearance can have a very polarising effect and people either love or hate it (he currently sports a rainbow mohawk but previously had bright pink hair, mine used to have various colours but is now dreadlocked, he has pierced tongue and cock, and we are both tattooed).

As is to be expected, we've seen very few other 'alternative' couples or singles around, let alone those who aren't put off.

How important are appearances to how sexy someone is?

Are there any other unusual looking people here?

Tbh...I hate the term 'alternative' but have been tattooed and pierced for the past 26 years and I am not the alternative lol...the people who look this way as part of a fashion fad are...we are not the same! But I have found that looking this way is what most people like about me...but they also assume that because they have tattoos that I will automatically like them sometimes too...I don't care one way or the other...is all about the person and outer appearance is changeable n rarely means much in terms of the person inside

There are those who may not like that kind of look but plenty who will love it.

People will make a judgement on anything ,you could look the human version of beige and immediately some will pigeon hole you as "boring" .Others though will actually get to know the person and then make their opinion.

I have found my various hair colours ect have always actually been a great conversation starter not only on here but out in the normal life too . End of the day im doing it for me and what makes me happy and feel good . At present I feel good with pillar box red hair and if others aren't a fan then they are entitled to their own opinion .x

My first partner had unusual hair colours alternating monthly and piercings aplenty - snakebites, tunnels, eyebrows... you get the idea! It really didn't bother me and I've always found the 'alternative' look attractive.

I think if you make it an identification, it becomes an identity if that makes sense? Any aspect of someone will have those who like it and dislike it, just do what you want.

People are more likely to be attracted to other people similar to themselves and so looking different will discourage a lot of people. Some people also find it a little scary and intimidating because it's different.

I personally find it attractive but my career choices mean that I have to appear pretty normal on the outside and tbh I'm pretty normal anyway

My own view is that appearances depend on the person. Just like not every redhead is attractive to those who lust after redheads, not every 'alternative' person is attractive to those who find hat particular look attractive.

Personally I don't really care or buy in to "types" I can and do find 'alternative' women as attractive as the more 'straight laced' women

You're bang on about the polarising effect. Appearance counts for so much on here because initially it's the only thing we have to judge each other on...

I tend to be drawn to those who have mad coloured hair (at least we'd have one thing in common) or look 'alternative' because it's a good conversation starter and more often than not, they're fun, vibrant, playful people. I find that so sexy.

If I met you guys in a pub away from the likes of fab, I'd instantly want to talk to you guys because you look so striking.. it's like a moth to a flame... and again I'd assume you have a great personality to pull off the looks. x

I do like the alternative look on some people, but they never tend to be attracted to me. I've found people who have a lot of tattoos or piercings, or blue hair or whatever, can be actually more closed minded towards those, like me, who choose to dress in a more conventional way. I use fake tan, false eyelashes, dress quite conservatively and have no tattoos or piercings. That's enough for me to be labelled boring, dull, a sheep.

I had had various hair colours and had turquoise hair for around four years, tattoos and the odd piercing. I did alternative modelling a few years back for latex designers, corset designers, headgear designers and a few magazines. I featured in bizarre before it discontinued etc.

So I guess I was considered alt. I have since toned my hair colour down and I have less piercings. I still love to get tattoos and such though and love the alt look.

That doesn't mean to say I fancy each every female or male with the alt look.

Each to their own.

Personally Alternative gets first attention from me over anyone else.

However I can't stand the bloody hipsters who've swamped the lands and only do it for fashions sake.

I recently shaved off my mohawk, though now I look like a thug in a suit..

I find girls sexy regardless of gender or whether they are alternative but I've experienced "regular" girls - they are great but it is true that "birds of a feather flock together" so I'm looking for an alternative girl like me. Doesn't have to be heavily pierced - I love all facets of an alternative look - tattoos, hair, clothes, makeup.

that's basically my sister, she has the more traditional superficial appearance of fake tan, false nails, and eye lashes, mine and my youngest sister is the emo look. my conventional sister does better than me on fab (way more popular) but yeah irl i do way better than her and she thinks there's something wrong with her for that.

i do think i'm more of a novelty rather than anything else. we look and act very similar without our superficial additions.

true. when i was 18 and wanted my swallow on my wrist to cover up a crappy tattoo i did (with a sewing needle and ink), the tattooist wasn't keen to do there as it could be seen.

never had a problem getting work though but only had that one, and my ankles done.

I love people who are a little different

Id rather meet a guy in a pair of jeans and newrocks than a suit because the first bite is with the eye and i just know the jeans and newrock guy will be far more my type of person than a suited and booted guy

My ideal type of guy most women wouldn't touch with a barge pole on here

My OH has long hair (goes halfway down his back when it's not up) and because it's in such good condition, he constantly gets "Perhaps this lady will know?" when he's at work.

He was telling me the other day an elderly woman approached him having said just that, and they said "Is it a she or not?" Cheeky mare!

He responded "It IS NOT a she..."

Her husband was stood behind her shaking his head rolling his eyes!

My point is that we both think it's ridiculous that in the 21st century being 'alternative' (meh, btw! - aren't we all alternative in a way in here?) is still an issue with society.

We like interesting people, so those with an alternative or unusual look certainly wouldn't put us off.

Some might consider me alternative, but I don't do labels. I'm just me...I simply happen to have red/pink hair and some tattoos.

Not really mainstream at all. Maybe on TV etc.

Majority of people working in my company don't have tattoos. Out of 320 women, not seen any with sleeve tattoos.
