Contraceptive implant

As well as using condoms on the pill but rescently been advised about the contraceptive implant in your arm just wanted to hear from people who have had it done and their experiences as doctors can only tell you medical facts and would just like peoples experiences of having it implanted any side affects ect

I have had a couple of these in the past and it worked well for me. But check how you are with progesterone only contraception first, if the deposit injection suits you then it will probably be fine X

I have one. No periods as such the old spot of blood or brown discharge otherwise all good. Just be careful if I go on anti biotic as doesn't work.

Work for 3 years. X

I had one for 2 years. Fantastic. No problems and no periods the bang!! It failed and caused mass bleeding. Had it removed and back on pill. Never again.

It is not something I would go for. I have a couple of friends who used it and had nothing but problems.

But like everything in life try it for yourself and see how you get on with it.

im on my third.. it gives me periods every few days.. so i use that for contraception but have to take the mini pill to regulate my period..

No perfectly valid question im on the mini pill and been advised to try the implant just wanted some experiences of what other peoples issues were with it thanks all very informative will have a think about it and talk to my doctor again before making descision thanks everyone

because ive fallen pregnant on it 3 times...as my other medication can affect it... so have to have a none ingested form of contraception.

Hoping when ive lost more Weight they will finally stop making excuses to sterilise me....

I am on my fourth one so 10 years for me. Each one gives me around 10 months with no periods then just over 2 years of light monthly bleeding. Body has changed recently and the last one gave me quite long bleeds towards the end of the 3 years so dr has said i should change it every two and a half now.

oh and it regulates ny moods really well no pms which huuby loves lol

but everyone is different

I'm on my 4th implant and I've had no problems. My periods stop for 2 years with each one, then I only have light infrequent bleeding for the last year before they're changed.

I've got small scars on my arm from having them removed but nothing noticeable.

I had one in about 7 years ago. Was great for a year but then after that my mood changed rapidly. I was a horrible person and paranoid about everything. I had the implant removed and within 24 hours I was back to my normal self.

Having said that... I'm contemplating trying it again at the end of the month.

Why not just get the partner a vacectomy ? Job done

Doesn't solve the issues with other partners. I think you'd have to be pretty risky to solely rely on condoms and not have a back up

I (Mrs SnT) rely solely on condoms with others. I am unable to take oral contraceptives, had problems with the coil and the injection and the implant would cause the same problems therefore my GP doesn't advise that for myself.

I had the implant put in last year as I had been on the depot injection for 14 years so couldn't have it any longer. The implant is great as no periods like the depot but no 3 monthly injections.

Because id have to give this up as wouldnt just rely on condoms for it. And why should my partner have to when ive been trying to be sterilised for 14 years... but keep getting told to young.. to fat.. then i was to single..

So i have the implant for contraception.. mini pill for my cycle and condoms for protection against stds.

My Partner has the implant and is now on her 4th, apart from being uncomfortable while being fitted they have been no probs, only gets a couple of small periods a year but does occasionally get lumpyish sore boobs. She had the implant first fitted after having a DVT while on the Pill, hope this helps,

I couldn't get on with it , had it for 2 year, it itched everyday and annoyed feel! In the end had it taken out and tried depro for a while which I liked!!

I've just had my second one put in (nexplanon) and had no periods at all, which is bliss. Only downsides for me are it makes my skin oily but that's it
