I have noticed an increasing number of female profiles that have stated that their body size is 'average' but on closer inspection they look overweight and would be classed as curvy or ample. Do they mean they are 'average' for fab or average in general? . P.S I am well aware men do the same but this thread is about women .

It's no different than the fellas carrying a brewery who call themselves athletic.

When it comes to body type on here, you really can't win. I've been called too fat for curvy, too thin for large and told I'm doing it wrong because I've now put fabulous. If people can't use their eyes and judge by photos they are too moronic for me to want to meet anyway.

'Average' means different things to different people as it's a subjective term. Some people might be a certain size and describe themselves thus as they've read it's an 'average' size for adult females in a particular age group. Others might use 'average' because they see themselves as 'not too large, not too small' or even, to mean they think they're 'nothing special' body wise as opposed to a comment on their actual size.

However, surely all that's important is whether or not someone looking at their pictures finds them attractive? I think having to pick a body size from the limited options allowed here is pretty irrelevant most of the time unless you're happy to contact someone on the basis of their written profile only and would exclude certain body sizes. Thing is though, I've seen plenty of profiles where people have described their bodies in terms I wouldn't agree with .... so it comes back again to 'do you like the look of them?'

one thing worth remembering the "average" size of both men and women is getting bigger according to data, stated by retailaers so average could easily be a size 16 -18

UK average is 5'5" and a size 16. I'm overweight according to my BMI, 5'4" and a size 14. So despite me being podgy and having been referred to as curvy, ample and BBW in fab terms I'm actually smaller than the national average. In general. So if the statistics don't tally with your aesthetic sense OP then use your eyes and just avoid these without clear pictures to avoid being disappointed in future. Otherwise you risk potentially upsetting someone who is statistically average by telling her when you finally see pics that she looks fat and you're not interested as a result. If it's such a big dealbreaker for you then there are ways to minimise it.

Everybody's take on "average " is different. The same as everyone's take on "attractive " is.

Why worry how others describe themselves ? Seems like a ridiculous thing to get annoyed about tbh.

Until they introduce guidance on what the terms mean (which isn't going to happen without offending a lot of people) it's going to be open to interpretation. Don't see any issue, isn't that the point of exchanging messages and (more) pics to see if the necessary attraction is there.

I've been told I shouldn't have described myself as curvy but I don't know what else I am from the available options so picked the best fit. Expect others have had to do the same.

In all likelihood you're not. Anyone wearing size 16 and above (unless they're very tall) is likely to be overweight as defined by the World Health Organisation.

Averages are a mathematical concept, not an indicators of one's health

So if everyone weighed 30 stone nobody would have anything to worry about??!!

I am developing a new fruit based sizing system

Rhubarb - Slim

Banana - Average

Pear - Curvy

Mango - Large

Melon - Fabulous

That way I can arrange a fruit salad when it all goes apricots up

I flit between describing myself as average / curvy on here.

There's a limit choice of descriptive words to choose from so it's the best of a bad bunch.

one thing worth remembering the "average" size of both men and women is getting bigger according to data, stated by retailaers so average could easily be a size 16 -18

That is a fair comment, maybe my perception of 'average' is incorrect

Isn't this precisely the problem.. All the above comments essentially say the same, a population with increasing weight and declining health.

So the national 'average' has now become unhealthy ??

If it's overweight yes, it's an independent predictor of increased risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes and hypertension

I see, Tbh I thought a size 16 was over weight and above average however it appears I was wrong .

In all likelihood you're not. Anyone wearing size 16 and above (unless they're very tall) is likely to be overweight as defined by the World Health Organisation."
