Question for the trans community

In the politics forum there is a thread discussing political correctness. One poster has asserted that cis gendered people can no longer be refered to as male or female, because it "offends transgenders".

Does anyone from the trans community care to offer an opinion on this?

(original quote: "How about not being allowed to refer to someone as either male or female because it offends transgenders")

I read something in one of the papers today about universities calling people "ze" instead of "he or she" for this very reason. I have been told that gender is just a social construct, not a scientific fact so who knows?

Is there a problem referring to a male who identifies as female, she? if thats what that person wants to be called then that is fine. Not sure where the "ze" fits in?

And it's only a matter of time before someone will be offended by 'ze'...

I forgot which paper, I think it was Oxford University, but to do with the student union.

I have no issue with he or she. It's their gender.

My gender is a little more fluid. If I present as female please call me a she. If male. He.

Yeah, I have just read through the universities transgender policy, it makes not a single reference to ‘Ze’. I have had a look on the Oxford University Student Union website, again, I couldn’t find any reference to ‘Ze’ or the transgender pamphlet that they supposedly wrote.

I think people spend too much time worrying about offending people.

Yeah thats an article that talks about it, but there is no quote from the University, there is no quote from the student union, and there is no link to the alleged leaflet.

If you dig even deeper and look at the transgender policy of the university there is no mention of it, if you look on the website of the student union its not on there either.

I would say this looks an awful lot like the fake news we have been hearing so much about.

That's how I see it too. I fear that there are a lot of people out there ready to be "offended" on behalf of people who really couldn't give a toss. I know some people are touchy but I don't see the point, just makes their life and the lives of those who are around them more difficult.

Sounds like it.

I, for one, don't need anyone getting offended on my behalf.

Yeah I would say so.

Sounds like a load of bollocks.

There are many 'issues' being trans cause but being offended by the basic gender classification is a whole new level!!

(i'm quite gender nuetral FYI)

I like to state for the record that, as a professional offendee on behalf of others, I am pre-offended, when 'ze' comes into common use

And currently, I choose to be offended because it is not in common use

I would tend to get annoyed (not exactly offended) by anyone presuming to be an unelected spokesperson for an entire section of society. (I hesitate to use the word 'community').
