Before coming here I'd never heard of Kik but it seems that everyone here uses it rather than Skype or WhatsApp etc.

Why is it better?

You don't need to give your phone number out like on what app

I used kik and Skype depending on my needs.

Skype is better for web cams

We use Kik quite a bit. Those we trust then on Whatsapp. The next stage is inviting back to ours (obviously just for coffee) ??

Kik filters messages by sender

A huge advantage over here especially for the women who get loads

We use kik to arrange meets and even an entire party once....we used to use Whatsapp until a guy used our phone number to trace us via Facebook

Kik is anonymous, which suits us

Same. FB took over Whatsapp and now uses algorithms to suggest friends based on your mobile number. Scary who pops up
