It seems some consider the two to be quite seperate matters. We recently met people who used the vape system but have themselves on the site as non smokers.

To us though there was that smell of nicotine that we really do not like and so we personally think one equates to the other. Or does the site need to list vapeing as well as smoking to help the filters?

Over to you...

Yes two different complete systems of allowing nicotine in to the body

First the normal smoker

4000 chemical in that product to make sure he or she is fixed and addicted

When they light up and inhale, point of damage, carbon , tar and endless chemicals hit the bloody stream , blacken the lungs , overall inreversable damage,

Now your vapor.

Two types of liquid for inhaling a third liguid, nicotine ,

Zero damage to the person next to him or his lungs, the smoker would pass a smoking test for carbon,

But would pass a cotinine test of urine,

That's fine as he isn't causing damage, 3 days the Cotinine will go if he stops

Nicotine /cotinine same for the smoker but to late, can't take your lungs out and wash them

I dont believe that enough testing has been done to say vaping or ecig have no long term effects on the lungs

There is no smell of nicotine. The smell you get with smoking is of burnt tobacco. Vaping is odourless with the exception of the flavourings that are used (such as fruit flavours, vanilla etc) and even then they are very mild.

If you object to the 'smell' of vaping I suggest you are objecting to the idea of it, rather than any smell

I agree that there should be an option for vaping on the site now. At least it will put this issue to bed for good then.

I disagree. Vaping is not smoking.

If we have an option for Vaping, we should have an option for what people eat or drink, or if they wear aftershave

mildred gave up smokeing and now vapes, there is no smell from the vape that we have noticed, she just needs to give up the habit of puffing on a plastic tube which I'm sure some still associate with smokeing,

we have put on our profile that neither of us smoke , but did add on our profile that mildred vapes

I vape..and am listed as a non smoker. I use fruity or minty liquids. I don't smell/taste like a smoker.

If a meet has a problem with me vaping ( talking an overnight meet here) then I won't.

I don't smoke and can smell cigarette smoke a mile off. If I'm driving and somebody outside is smoking, I can smell it.

But, I can't get why people put vaping down. There is the smell of whatever flavour they're using but that's it. No more smell afterwards than if they had chewed gum or d*unk a strong tasting drink. Can't see the big deal. I wouldn't link the two habits personally.

What does nicotine content have to do with it? If you were solely using nicotine gum or patches would you still be considered a smoker?

That's what I don't get. I think people who say 'no smokers' say so because of the tobacco smell, not because they have an idealogical thing against nicotine. As far as I know it's undetectable to anybody else??

Exactly, so surely a vaper is a non-smoker, as the negative aspect (smell) doesn't exist. Unless I'm missing something?

I'd say vaping looks more ridiculous (apart from rollies).

Cigarettes smell worse but the sickly sweet smell of vaping isn't pleasant.

Ok... consider the vaper who has made steps to improve their health and more importantly to use a method of nicotine delivery that doesn't cause harm to others against those who don't attempt to change and soldier on with cigarette in hand to an early grave while taking their friends and acquaintances with them? You think the vaper looks ridiculous...

While you find the odour of vaping unpleasant other odours, perfumes aftershave body sprays Diesel engines kebab shops can be equally offensive. I vape like I smoked, with a conscious effort not to interfere with others!

Clearly the opinion of someone who has never smoked and doesn't realise how difficult it can be for some people to give up. It must be wonderful to sit in your ivory tower looking down on others ....

Some people don't seem to realise how overpowering their aftershave or perfume can be there was a chap in my local supermarket last Saturday who must have put a litre of aftershave on it was that strong it lingered way after he had walked off you could even smell it on the veg he had handled and put back.

I respect your preference not to meet vapers, but do please curb your ignorance and judgmentalism about a subject you clearly have no knowledge of, and respect those that do vape.

I'll throw you another.... my parents have both smoked for all their adult lives, now they are retired, heavily.

6 months ago we had our first child and I would love them to watch her grow into a beautiful woman. I'd really love that!! I have bought both ecigs, quite a few different ones, now I've bought them sub kits ( the cloudy ones) ... and if.... only if ... they switch their habit I will be made up... at no point will I look and say "how ridiculous". Ridicule of others without good reason and ridicule which may deter someone from improving their health and lengthening their life seems a little .... wrong?

Then the doctor faked his qualification.

Theres very few chemicals, none proven harmful after at least 13 years of studies.

And Nicotine, which is as harmful as a cup of coffee.

I think the Dr was incredibly wrong and neglectful to say that with no medical evidence.

You should immediately get them to revisit their gps and find out what chemicals they believe to have caused the issue! Possibly then ask them to refer their gps to the guidance from the royal college of physicians, then public health England. While I guess an allergy to propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin or a flavouring is unlikely it is possible! To have two friends diagnosed this way seems very unlikely.... do they use the same gp?

As for the health implications the NHS guidance is:

It may come as a surprise to many that we don't know exactly what is in e-cigarettes and the effect they have on health, especially given that there are more than 7,000 different "e-cigarette flavours" and the devices are used by millions.

E-cigarettes are currently unregulated, meaning there is no standardisation or medical control over what is in them, although this is set to change in 2016.

And because they haven't been around long, there is precious little research informing us about the effect they have on health. As such, there is a lot of debate about whether they are good or bad for health.

One side says e-cigarettes are a much safer alternative to regular tobacco smoking as they don't contain cancer-causing chemicals, just the additive substance nicotine. A recent evidence review by Public Health England concluded they are 95% safer than regular cigarettes.

The other side of the argument says the vapour may still damage lungs in as yet unknown ways, and the widespread uptake of vaping may normalise smoking again, leading to more people – especially young adults – taking up the tobacco version.

Marketing of sweet and fruit e-cig flavours to kids and young adults has also come under the spotlight, especially when they can choose between flavours like cherry crush and alien blood.

Irrespective of which side of the debate you're on, one thing is for sure: we lack information about what is in e-cigs and how they affect health. Most research has focused on the nicotine in the devices, rather than the chemical content beyond this.

At present, there are more questions than answers. There's little doubt not smoking tobacco or e-cigarettes is the best way to reduce your risk.

Some people don't seem to realise how overpowering their aftershave or perfume can be there was a chap in my local supermarket last Saturday who must have put a litre of aftershave on it was that strong it lingered way after he had walked off you could even smell it on the veg he had handled and put back.

...or the opinion of somebody who smoked for 15 years, read Allen Carr, quit by actually quitting and recognises the bullshit of an addict

I'm not arguing about aftershave or garlic or marmite. I'm pointing out that it is still a nicotine addiction, it still stinks and it looks ridiculous.

You still haven't answered what's wrong with being addicted to nicotine, oh wait you blocked me last time I shot you down on this very subject.

No we blocked you because we don't find you attractive."

Ah your dishonesty knows no bounds. Still avoiding my question I see, must be a real difficult one

Woe is me being 95% safer now I vape instead of smoke! There's also no evidence that vaping normalises smoking, on the contrary the opposite is being observed. Vaping isn't being marketed at kids, in fact you have to click that you're over 18 to enter, now I'll admit that isn't much of a security measure but it is evidence that they are not intentionally selling to under age customers.

See you avoided the question about those who vape zero nicotine?

And as you rightly pointed out, there is no evidence or medical findings anout harmful effects from vaping.

Perhaps until there is you should wind your neck in? Because your arguement is based on zero evidence, rather youre own preference which youre being particularly rude in the manner in which your projecting it.

I wonder, do you drink tea? Coffee?

"It seems some consider the two to be quite seperate matters. We recently met people who used the vape system but have themselves on the site as non smokers.

To us though there was that smell of nicotine that we really do not like and so we personally think one equates to the other. Or does the site need to list vapeing as well as smoking to help the filters?

Over to you...

There is no smell of nicotine. The smell you get with smoking is of burnt tobacco. Vaping is odourless with the exception of the flavourings that are used (such as fruit flavours, vanilla etc) and even then they are very mild.

If you object to the 'smell' of vaping I suggest you are objecting to the idea of it, rather than any smell"

nonsense - try walking into a cloud of someone's bad breath, multiplied by a gagging chemical raspberry odour - bloody disgusting

I hate vaping possibly more than i hate smoking

As for the nicotine implications, I've never looked in to it but a quick look makes it clear they're in no way certain about its safety:

A 2014 American Heart Association policy statement found that some health concerns relate to nicotine. Experimental research suggests that adolescent nicotine use may harm brain development.Children exposed to nicotine may have a number of lifelong health issues.

Eh, why would I care about anyone's opinion but my own and my doctor's. Vaping stops me from being grumpy, and I smell a hell of a lot better than I used to.

I don't get colds, bronchitis, throat and ear infections like I used to. But in the end, I don't give a fuck what anyone says. I'm a vaper, and I plan on outliving the lot of you.

I used to smoke and used vaping as a tool to give up smoking.

But I have to agree that now as a non smoker that vaping is also gross!

Not as stinky as fags but still gross!

It's only since I stopped all of it I realised

I would rather not be around someone puffing clouds of strawberry vapour or someone with a fag.

I had to be a non smoker to understand

Recent enough?

A 2016 review suggests that "the risks of nicotine without tobacco combustion products (cigarette smoke) are low compared to cigarette smoking, but are still of concern in people with cardiovascular disease." Some studies in people show the possibility that nicotine contributes to acute cardiovascular events in smokers with established cardiovascular disease, and induces pharmacologic effects that might contribute to increased atherosclerosis. Brief nicotine use, such as nicotine medicine, seems to incur a slight cardiovascular risk

This is from the US Surgeon General... yesterday!

Nicotine is harmful to the developing brain regardless of whether it's smoked through a traditional cigarette or an e-cigarette, Benard Dreyer, President of American Academy of Pediatrics, said during the press conference.

“Nicotine… regardless of its source is highly addictive and has clear neurotoxic effects especially on the developing brains of adolescent and even into early adulthood,"

The fact is that every scientific study so far has proved that vaping even the higher percentage nicotine is healthier than smoking. There's just no comparison.

Ah good old Darwin....

I expect his theory of smoking evolution would indeed have been to boil a suspension liquid on top of a battery in order to extract nicotine instead of burning countless chemicals and inhaling it.

I smoked for 15 years, heavily, now I vape.

It's better, I'm healthier, I can smell things now, I can taste my food, my vaping doesn't offend anyone I have encountered.

I'm absolutely sure it's no worse for me than not vaping but it's better than smoking.

I'm also pretty sure the two bottles of Chablis I just polished off aren't doing my health much good.

Let's address the elephant in the room....

Overweight people should not be smoking or vaping until they lose some weight

(Cue onslaught of comments from people who are indeeed overweight and have A: had too much to drink and are furiously typing, but slowly due to their battle with predictive text and B: people who know someone who is overweight and feel sorry for them)

"Ah good old Darwin....

I'm also pretty sure the two bottles of Chablis I just polished off aren't doing my health much good.

;)

No they're good for you. And coffee and chocolate and butter "

Oh dear, coffee contains caffeine which after 5 milliseconds of googling I find is a health risk, I don't like the smell of it and I think people look stupid walking around drinking out of cardboard cups, ban it I say, ban it now for the good of the children.

PG, a base ingredient for e-liquid is also the solvent for many asthma inhalers, but being a google expert you already knew that, right?

If I did I'd probably find something like this:

A new study recently presented during the European Respiratory Society congress, in Munich – the world’s biggest respiratory meeting – suggests using electronic cigarettes may cause serious respiratory conditions like asthma and emphysema.

But that wouldn't be worthy of the opinions of a couple of addicts. I understand.

Bless you. I assume you've had a bad run in with some horrible vapers. Our scented steam must be vexing.

Or what I vape, VG, vegetable glycerine, wait for it...

It's what makes up the bulk of the liquid you give your children when they have a cough.

And anyone who has an issue with the potential damage caused by vaping.

Go to your bathroom and remove every product containing propylene glycol or any derivative of glycol infact, then post a list of what you just removed.

Oh and post a photo of how you look without your make up tomorrow
