A US study has found that people who frequently wax or shave their pubic area report a greater history of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Now what? For me, I love trimmed or full. Not shaven on men.

Just another scaremongering non-story to try and control us more.

Don't eat bacon

Don't drink

Don't smoke

Don't do anything fun in your life at all

That is authorities mantra for us all.

I think it also said that this could have been because the shaved people were having more sex!

Just because there is correlation doesn't prove anything they can never judge with 100% certainty. Just show significance

As I remember it. It has to do with freshly shaved and waxed skin being porous hence open to infection. Most people tend to shave early and give the skin time to cool.

In all honesty it's probably scare mongering from those with a thatch that get turned down.

"but I can't trim my wife will notice!" ah that old chestnut

It doesn't take a genius to know that infections can get into the blood via cuts in the skin. And that razors can drag across the skin and cut you. Infections are tiny and can get into the smallest cut.

Hair is also a barrier, don't know how people can't see that too.

I'm surprised that people need to be told.

Same as being told bacon isn't good for you. Course it's not, it's a high fat meat product, but I still eat it now and then. I still shave now and then, even though I know it adds to the risk of catching something during sex.

As for saying people who shave could be having more sex, what a load of bollocks. I didn't shave for months and had more sex than I'd had in the previous year.

I think this is because if you shave you probably tend to be more sexually active

I'm not going to change my grooming habits because of it. Maybe there's an extra bit of risk there, but it's within the acceptable threshold of risk for me, same as I don't use condoms got blow jobs.

Skin rubbing on skin causes friction and can cause abrasions.

You wear a condom to protect you, but it can't cover the pubic area, which is left more vulnerable when you shave. Obviously.

Exactly, we know the risks, make our assessments and act accordingly.

Your final paragraph has totally missed the point - the argument is that people who have sex with more partners (eg swingers) have a higher tendency to shave their pubes - and also catch STIs.

Not really rocket science to work out that the more partners the higher the risk

These surveys make me laugh as they get funded and make a living out of performing crap surveys that nobody is interested in

"Well, cyclists and swimmers are buggered then "

Interestingly, the women's Team GB cycling team were told to stop shaving as they were getting sores and bruises that impacted their training. They had to grow some hair to protect the area and allow them to train more efficiently.

Helmets at both ends if you will.

Correlation is not causation. I would suggest that this correlation is due to the fact that shaved men and women are more sexually active

Everyone should grow them really long, trim them down, weave the clippings into a condom. Instant end to STI problems.

Well think about it! they are likely to be more sexually active surprise surprise and given they take extra care of themselves as witnessed by the desire trim or Brazilians to get themselves checked regularly hence the increase "in report".

Statistics can be used to prove anything!

98.9% of statistics are made up

Old news, rehashed this week.

There may well be an increase in risk but not in actual cases. How do we know? Because the Daily Whatnot would have frkont page news about it!

Clearly not an issue, move on,

True.

However, humans are spectacularly bad at assessing risk.

I had to laugh when I read this a few months ago. Like they actually did grow it. My guess is that they simply kept quiet about problems once they'd had that talk.
