Difference between UK and USA

Just a few things I've noticed in my years of traveling....,

Food - the U.K. Has smaller portions. I would have to order double portions in the U.K. to equal one American portion

Housing- on average the USA has much bigger homes

Race relations-

in America the term Asian = Chinese, Korean, Japanese. In the U.K. Asian = India, Pakistan

In America we have much more black people in government and in leadership positions. I don't remember seeing any people of color in any leadership positions in the U.K..

Please add anything you feel I missed

I'll agree with you on the generally bigger house sizes and lack of non white representatives, OP. Maybe not the rest.

Pronunciation and spellings as well as completely differing names for certain things I found cropped up for me over the times I have visited. In one place I tried asking for gherkin and tomato several times to go on a sub roll and received a blank look until I said "pickle and tomaydo"

Had the same happen in Estonia of all places.

We'd stopped at a fast food outlet and one of us didn't want tomatoes in his burger.

Though the staff seemed to have a very good grasp of English this "tomato" clearly flummoxed them.

There was lots of muttering and arm waving until one of us noticed a large poster of a burger right by us.

"there", he said pointing at the offending fruit " tomato ".

"ah!" as the light dawned on them, "tomaydo"

Pretty much all of the 'information' films I was shown while in the forces were American disasters. I mean real footage from real fuck ups.

Aircraft falling off aircraft carriers.

Aircraft parked in rows facing each other.. then when they're bombed and one's on fire its weapons cook off and shoot another and so on.

Vietnam films all about field injuries. I'm talking limbs blown off. Etc.

Fires in bomb magazines and all the stupid things they'd done that made them lose so many lives and ships.

I could go on.

Americans appear to fuck up a lot according to their footage.

I think the British accent brings a touch of class to any person using it. One thing I discovered this summer , all the people from the U.K. I met this summer were from the west end a very rich. After a few drinks and more questions all the people from Chelsea, surrey, and Nottingham all really lived in brixton.

I lived in Vegas for a year and half.

Its such an amazing place to see.

The people are so kind. A man in a casino overheard we was going to florida and said come and meet my mum. She was playing the slots and he told her we was going there. She opened her bag and gave us two sets of keys. One to her house and one for the car. Stay at mine she said. We exchanged details and went.

Ive not seen such kindness in the uk.

There grammer and outlook is odd.

What englishman high fives?

Why do they burn bacon?

They also have an open fridge policy.

If you invite someone in yours they have the right to look in your fridge and get what they want. No questions.

Immagine that over here. Your mates mate walking into your kitchen and opening the fridge. Youd be like 'you alright there mate!!!'

Also there money smells quite bad.

The Mayor of London is a Muslim of Pakistani heritage, though he is very much an exception. We do have some minority representation in parliament, but very rarely in senior cabinet roles.

Food - the U.K. Has smaller portions. I would have to order double portions in the U.K. to equal one American portion

Housing- on average the USA has much bigger homes

Race relations-

in America the term Asian = Chinese, Korean, Japanese. In the U.K. Asian = India, Pakistan

In America we have much more black people in government and in leadership positions. I don't remember seeing any people of color in any leadership positions in the U.K..

The founding fathers of America made it a law that ever citizen has a right to have a firearm. This was to prevent the government from having total control. An added benefit was if we were invaded . The invaders would have to deal with armed citizens.

Now if you look at places like North Korea or China which citizens can't own firearms. Then you will see how impossible it is to stand up to a tyrannical government without firearms.

Yes we will have mass shootings but we accept that as price of freedom.

Maybe at the time, but that was to protect you from the evil British yoke, or anyone else that might choose to step in once the Brits had bailed. The US has been self governing for 240years ans is the most powerful military in the world. If US citizens had to fight their own government, how is that likely to pan out?

I'm not sure it ever worked. Even George Washington had a dim view of militia, despite the odd success, as a viable fighting force, much preferring a standing army.
