We're both retired (I work so little it isn't worth mentioning). The truth is we had so many things we wanted to do when we were working and just didn't have the time that we're fully occupied.

It helps that we bought a property that needs work. Apart from that I'm studying a couple of things I'm interested in, catching up on a reading list about three miles long and spending quality time with my parents.

As a couple we socialise much more, spend much more quality time with each other, go to places we didn't have time to before, spend ages just kicking back with a cup of coffee and a paper.

I think it's quite difficult to make the mental shift from full time working to not. The biggest thing is accepting that you're allowed to do things you enjoy and that leisure isn't a bad thing. Once you've sorted that you'll find loads you want to do.

Enjoy!

44 years old, and need people to tell you what to do in your spare time?

Really?

Do you have any hobbies?

Pastimes?

Sports?

Reading?

Learning something new?

Do some adult education?

Visit places; museums, art galleries, historic places.

Go enjoy the Countryside .

What about voluntary work?

Eg

Red Cross

Charity shop

Hospital visitor

St Johns ambulance.

Do you have skill you could use in youth centres?

Scouts?

Or old folk

Meals on wheels.

Animal sanctuary

Samaritans

Some councils have a scheme for voluntary drivers to take old folk shopping or to hospital appointments ( expenses and fuel paid for)

Look up voluntary organisations online ( your council or county has a list of voluntary organisations you could join.)

The list is endless.

Well you did ask; You said your work is seasonal and you don't have lots of spare time

Hence the list of things that have all sorts of possibilities; and which enable you to choose how much or how little you do.

I did several of these things when I was fully employed;

I did more of them when I went to part time working

I do several more of them ( or equivalents) now I am retired.

Central

I've always much, much more to do (ie would perhaps love to do, or am ignoring) than I'm actually able to do, due to limited time.

Home jobs and life admin, social stuff, books and hobbies, artistic interest, travel and lots more, including sex.

With any spare time to hand, I'm sure tons of other interests and distractions would spring up.
