Amyl nitrate is a drug with medical uses.

Poppers are more commonly an analogue or near analogue - butyl nitrite for instance.

Lots of good stuff in this thread about them; my particular dislike is the crusty nasal deposits.

If you have the kind of heart condition that might react to a dose of butyl nitrite then good sex might also be a risky option.
