Being a gamer and finding myself these days with less people to play with online, I wondered if there was anyone on here who's a bit of a PC gamer?

Steam has more than just tomb raider on it. It's the biggest global gaming platform.

Old school games are awesome! Love some of the N64 games.

I really want a gaming PC, but I can't justify spending that much just for gaming when my laptop works perfectly well for non-gaming stuff. Other than that I'm still playing the 360 as the Xbone and PS4 don't impress me at all. My laptop is fairly new though so I'm discovering all the old games I never got to play, like Medieval 2: Total War, Mount & Blade Warband, and SW Battlefront 2 (Which I did play on PS2)

Depends what you play for a gaming PC. I mean I got addicted to modded minecraft at one point. Bought a gaming PC as I had an old laptop that couldn't run it and ever since enjoyed the gaming on PC much better. The frame rate

Seen gameplay, I just couldn't put the time in for it to be raided from me.

Oh you missed out my friend! CSGO is probably the worst of the lot (my opinion)

people dont need the top of the range gaming rig to play games on pc

even a standared amd dual core above 4000+ is till classed as a gamers rig intel 3 and 5 are also a gamers rig

a 6000+ will play tomb raider new one with 2 gb of memory even though minimum is 6gb for it

graphics card its best to have a 1gb or higher gb card

I agree with your initial statement.

However it does depend on the game. Games like battlefield 1 can be played on lower end graphics and lower end running capacity but to be enjoyed like on a console you'd want the recommended which can be expensive stuff.

Depends how fussy you are really. Me, I enjoy the latest and greatest when gaming, nothing worse than lag spikes due to your system!

Nintendo Dsi player here!

Yeh, I know. It's old news about an old platform.

I luuurve my wee Lego Dsi games. Finished the Indiana Jones one. Geez, those little guys in the fez hats... Took me YEARS to finish... It's one of those 'just a few spare moment' games I used to play at airports or when travelling.

Now I'm onto Star Wars Complete Saga. Whoohoo!

Ds are brilliant for travelling. Remember when I was a bit younger travelling with my family and managed to play some mario games with someone else on the plane.

The lego games are surprisingly good. And hilarious!

Used to play on pc, till got fed up of upgrades or games requiring entire reinstall every damn patch (eso)

Now on Xbox simply as easier to turn on or off as mood takes me, while I relax on sofa.

Been playing a lot of Destiny and Elite Dangerous (game drives me nuts lol)

Is it an age think where upgrades just annoy you? I mean I hate the cost but the ability to play the latest and greatest on my custom build is pretty satisfying.

Nah I upgraded mine fine, I just disliked sitting at my desk. after spending hr or so at gym, all I want to do is collapse on sofa and press play.

I'll get a pc again eventually or likely a gaming laptop, but for now my old desk if my leather workshop.

Elite dangerous is on pc and Xbox, it's a space sim sandbox remake of the 80s game Elite (and just as infuriating). Abit live eve, but where you have to actually fly the ship, not just press a key then log in a few days later.

Get a better chair man! I'm going to be upgrading mine soon but a decent chair will take away the whole desk vibe.

Gaming laptops aren't that upgradeable though are they?

Cost of upgrades also don't bother me, just bought an Xbox controller for £120. I just enjoy that I can pick up any game for Xbox and it works.

Unlike on pc, where it would have some random driver bug, where loads could play but people with better or same spec randomly couldn't. Resulting in help just saying "try a reinstall"

Ps4 for me, although considering a switch to Xbox... I know it's like changing football teams but I have my reasons.

Would love a gaming PC but I just don't know enough about them, so would last about a week.

Happy to teach! As complicated as it seems I learnt about them from basic research on forums. Now I have my own custom build. Oh I'm happy!

"Used to play on pc, till got fed up of upgrades or games requiring entire reinstall every damn patch (eso)

Elite dangerous.... I recognise but too lazy to google!

Have you seen space engineers? "

Once I see a game I really want on pc, that's not on Xbox I'll switch back.

Good laptop + external Gfx box and big monitor. Then I can plug in and play or take the laptop anywhere I need.

Mate is ranting about star citizen. His pc is way above spec for it and to quote "it lags like fuck and is melting my pc". He is tad upset as he loved it before. Not sure I'll bother with it though as it's massively pay to win, with ability to simply just buy your ships.

It's definitely worth investing in a decent gaming pc. If you assemble one yourself it could only cost about £500 for something mid range.

A group of us play Overwatch pretty regularly. It's completely eclipsed any other competative fps' we used to play. Would recommend any Blizzard title tbh... as long as you pick Horde.

Yeah definitely. Its asymmetrical, so instead of the entire roster consisting of "shootyarmygunman" theres different heroes to pick who play differently and counter each other etc

£35 is a lot of investment. I need a trial/demo. Made the mistake of buying black ops 3 for £40 for me to play less than an hour.

Haha well one could argue that every new CoD game is basically a copy/pasted version of the rest. Overwatch is more like TF2. Check out some gameplay or reviews, may not be for you but has massive appeal. My housemate streams it like every night, feel free to check her out: https://www.twitch.tv/chaoticnightowl

Yes played Civ 5 before quite alot but not been on it for a while, had beyond earth too, the problem with them is once you start you know thats 100 hrs away to disappear!

Civ 6 really is good tho, everything that was great about 5 just refined more and it just works well.

I thought the same initially when I first seen it and before I played it, thought the cartoon style would put me off but you really don't notice once you start to play it works really well in fact.

I wasnt going to get it till I read the initial first reviews then got sucked in and got it the first weekend it was out. Im not disappointed.

I've watched a small amount of game play on it and it seems like a few major differences are there to help in the early stages. I must admit I'm not pro at civ by any means.

They dont last as long as they once did. I remember when games were like 75% off the entire Summer. Now it might just be a weekend but they do happen.

I'm increasingly disenchanted by the so called triple A titles that are being released now. I have emulators to play old 8 and 16 bit games from my amstrad and amiga years and recently I've just gone back to GTA San Andreas, as it plays well on my surface pro, after having originally made a pc just to play it back in the day. Still my favourite of the series.

There's quite the social aspect to PC gaming as well. As well as having the easily accessible forums from your PC.

World of tanks.... worth playing? I've seen gameplay, kinda seems like whoever pays the most is the best?

"I'm increasingly disenchanted by the so called triple A titles that are being released now. I have emulators to play old 8 and 16 bit games from my amstrad and amiga years and recently I've just gone back to GTA San Andreas, as it plays well on my surface pro, after having originally made a pc just to play it back in the day. Still my favourite of the series.

San Andreas is a winner! But 5 is so misunderstood. Online is just mental now. Constantly updating.

I don't know about that. It's way easier to get a group of people together on Discord or Skype or something and find games to accomodate them all at once than trying to organise a successful Halo 5 night.

Besides, the nature of gaming pc's means that when they lag behind on the tech curve, you just upgrade them. Whereas a console will never outperform a dedicated gaming rig just because it's stuck with the parts it was assigned when it launched and even then, they're the equivalent of a mid-range pc.

I'm gonna wait for the 1080 to come down in price and build a 4k rig alongside one of those shiny new curved immersive screens to take advantage of the ridiculously detailed draw distance when you crank gta5 to the max! (Or go to the Bahamas on hols. It'll cost about the same!)

There's quite the social aspect to PC gaming as well. As well as having the easily accessible forums from your PC.

World of tanks.... worth playing? I've seen gameplay, kinda seems like whoever pays the most is the best? "

that's no true fella its a skill based game . I'm in the top 1000 players in the world on xbox live out of over 6 million people who have played the game .

with the xbox one you can snap forums while your playing utube guides to .

the console is very close to a pc no longer can you only game and nothing else, with the snap function you can watch the footy as you play in a smaller screen at the side if you choose surf the wed you name it .

record game play the lot although the record game play is limited compared to a pc .

you can edit you game videos do voice overs make you own guides on games the lot just like on a pc then post them on xbox live .

that's all true but it means for a level playing field for all players as everyone is running the game at the same settings meaning skill means more than the power of your pc .

iE if someone's running a first person shooter at 120 frames 4k he has a advantage over the guy running the same game at 60 frames 1080p .

gaming on xbox live is super competitive because its a level playing field where only skill sparates the good from the average and the average from the bad .

Not necessarily. Pc power makes a marginal difference in performance. Besides, with things like Twitch and streaming on pc and the enormous variety of games available on pc but not consoles, pc is dominating the competative and esports scene. Went to the League of Legends World Championship in 2014 and they packed Wembley

true but gaming pc sales are on the decline big time and the last halo tournament have a million dollars up for grabs in prize money .

its swings and roundabouts everyone I know who games on pc pirates there games which is killing the industry I happen to love ,

and when valve done a survey of pcs on steam most were less powerful that a wi. true gaming pcs make up about 2 percent of all the pcs out there .

if you want competitive play on a network designed for that that every game released works on with out needing to change networks to play then xbox live is the place to be and play in my opinion .

if it wasn't for xbox live id game on a pc but i have so many friends on there there is no way I'd go back to pc . I've been on xbox live since the original og xbox have gaming friends i still play with since them days .

Someone feel free to correct me but isn't electricity ran at 50hz AC anyway. So your light bulb in your lounge room light will flash, on and off, 50 times a second. And you don't see it flash do you. So imagine was 60-120 is like? Unnoticeable.

Unless you insist on running the Witcher 3 with like every setting turned to a million. A decent pc should be able to run any current game with a consistant framerate. I built one for my housemate recently, the parts alone were about £550 and it's powerful enough to run any game in her library WHILE streaming and broadcasting that gameplay.Games are more optimised these days so it takes less juice to run them.

Me I like to spend when I can, so I went big, dreamed big and ended up with......

GTX 970 with i7 6th gen, corsair liquid cooling with 4 white led fans and a case to house the mass. Not to mention having to buy a pci wireless card coz my new MSI motherboard didn't have a wireless card.

Cost me a pretty penny lol

Not bad. Got myself a tidy little Micro ATX setup here. Water cooled, brushed aluminium case imported from Germany, i5 2550k, gtx 670ftw gfx, 256gb OCZ SSD, 8GB Geil ram. Some of the parts are about 6 years old but I can still run any game I like at decent frames and top graphics settings

Sounds like a safe rig for 1080p

My very first build used a corsair titan server case. It was bloody enormous!! The mechanical hd made a right racket in that cavernous beast alongside the trusty 7600gts and a couple of gig which was plenty at the time..... I feel old

Sadly.... probably! I haven't played FIFA in years though. I used to get religiously! Ended with FIFA 13 I think!

Oh the memories!

Oh FIFA songs.... I still hear the odd song now that I know purely through FIFA.

They have great soundtracks don't they.

Gamers and film producers, know how to pick music don't they!

"Give me Mario kart on the Snes or maybe n64 or maybe old school 16 bit streetfighter II for pure fun gaming with friends. Loved them!

I have a decent collection of snes gear loads of factory sealed games etc

keep them they are collector items already and will only go up in value year on year .

I also have a large collection of rare console games and consoles ."

That's the idea, got some great titles too like final fantasy 1,2 & 3, secret of mana loads of others

That's the one when you would score and the cutscene was the goalkeeper karate kicking the camera in frustration?
