"If you put photos on the internet they are in effect in the public domain. As an interesting aside copyright would actually only belong to the person who took the photo not the subject. Copyright law is tortuous at best; anyone here going to risk tens of thousands of pounds in legal fees taking a copyright case to court? No I thought not - so if you don't want photos being used by others; don't post them on the internet." I wouldn't bother pursuing it under copyright law. I'm not a lawyer but s33 and s34 of the criminal justice and courts act 2015 are probably best bet. [tongue firmly in cheek] As an aside... his comment "I did nothing illegal, just daft"... as it is an offence to impersonate a police office, he is probably the one 'police officer' on here not doing anything illegal lol. (yeah, yeah, I know, lapel numbers needed etc... and yeah, I know of about a dozen coppers on here) -Matt

"We've never posted on here what we do for a job and to be honest it possibly would attract more people but probably more weirdos too. We don't really divulge that much when we meet. His lifestyle choice isn't the problem he's just been very foolish with the decision he made with his pics. Bet he can't stay away for long though. Bet he's back on soon but learnt his lesson. Once on fab it's hard to stay away!" I'm now interested in your jobs! I reckon your "civil servants" real life mr and Mrs smith! "wow there are some harsh comments on here. The guy made a mistake, yes he tried to tempt the ladies who enjoy uniforms and it backfired. He has my sympathy, we all send face pics when we decide its right, many have face pics on their profile, and many have pics with their work 'uniform' on, be it a suit or work clothes with logo on, wearing their company badge, picture taken in the office with identifiable logos on the paperwork behind them or on the desk, etc. Newspapers search for stories, for those who deny him sympathy, would you be as happy if it happened to you. " I wouldn't be happy if it happened to me, but then I wouldnt be dumb enough to put myself in such a position. He deserves everything he gets, Im glad hes never been involved in any matter that required police intervention that ive been involved with.

"Although it's a shame that the tabloid has invaded this persons privacy, I still have little sympathy. I've been in the emergency services game and I can ensure you that flashing your warrant card in clubs and posing in uniform in dating sites would have been drummed into you as a no no. This would have further been drummed into the officer whilst on active duty so if now loses his job then he should blame himself and hopefully not the daily mail. These rigid policies are there for a reason including reducing the risk of blackmailing you " Actualy it was originaly in the Sun newspaper, but youre right in what you say and you cant blame the Sun.

"But the paper should have no right to put pics/ out people on here with out there consent " The paper used the pics that police officer sent the lady who blew his indenty on here. Therefore "his" pics no longer belonged to him. Also this is a public site so I'm told. As such everyone's pics are open to anyone to "steal". Which is why I'm stunned when people put their face pic as public.

" It's their reason for existence though - they'd have no justification to publish every day if they did sensible journalism as no-one would buy it Maybe one day the public will stop wanting that sort of stuff and if you look at sales over time they are decreasing

"Anyone thinking their personal life is just personal and shouldn't be exposed in this day and age of freedom of speech and media doing what they're paid to do by the readers and their employers is just plain naive. There is really no such thing as respect of privacy in this day and age. If you respect your privacy it's up to you to protect it no one else is concerned for your privacy. Sounds a bit harsh but it's the reality we all live in now. We all want to know other people's business... the most popular TV shows and tabloids and media reflects that. Hide it if you value it...If you don't then accept it'll be of interest to many out there for numerous reasons...good or bad." Its all true, we all want to know other peoples buisness.

"The fact this place/swingers in general are in the media a lot leads me to believe its somebody from the inside. A fab user. There ARE journalists using the site. Often they masquerade as normal users, may even appear to be normal users, maybe have fake verifications set up from multiple accounts they have access to as they set these free accounts up. They may have even met genuine users to gain "credibility". Often the best place to hide is "in plain site". They can then say "I've got nothing to hide" etc. That what everyone who is duplicitous says. They feel it gains trust. This site is great but there ARE journalists here, just aire on the side of caution as you don't want egg on your face if you end up being a bloody story. A woman was recently named and had her address appear in the paper from Fab. " Totally agree. Papers are looking for a juicy story and if you have a high profile job you definitely may be asking for trouble! The interest won't go away...swinging stories will sell papers. Yes there are undercover reporters no doubt posing as members so best to always be ultra cautious in who you meet.

" totally a leap into something out of context with your analogy.. the media sell shit because people buy it and people like to read about other's salacious shenanigans.. security for police is also an issue, as well as members of the armed forces in the current climate.. compromising oneself and one's possible family is not sensible.. if you can't or are not willing to look at the facts that some occupations need to be a bit savvy then fine.. his business in privacy is not the issue for his employer, its his using his uniform that's got him into the papers'.. agree its not news..

In police training school, this officer would have had it drummed into him not to identify himself as a police officer on the internet as well as in person unless it is to place himself on duty. After passing out, the police professionals standards department would have held talks about this at least every year. If this officer sent photographs of himself (*in uniform) then he knew the risk that he may be sacked for bringing the job into disrepute. If is was not in uniform then it would likely not be a problem. I'm an employer with a medium size work force and if any of my employees were on fab posing in a photograph wearing their name badges then I'd sack them immediately (and then block them on here!). If my employees are on here but do not identify my company then I'll block and move on as they have a right to be here.
