In all fairness that's an opinion of 1. Surely that is up to the public in general. It's not like we can just walk up to you on the street and say, you look great as a blonde but we suspect you'd look better as a brunette. You'd probably punch us in the face....and rightly so

When I was younger yes I looked good as a brunette, the older I've become though it doesn't suit my skin tone, dark hair can be draining especially with the grey onslaught.

Therefore a combination of blonde / brown (balayage) has lightened up my appearance & I look better.

See now, I'm very pale, and quite like the contrast of the pale skin against the dark hair. I suppose it depends on the skins overtones though perhaps, because I've never been told I look washed out, or looked on the mirror and thought that I did

Arh now you have a different type of pale skin. Sort of 'brighter' pale. Mine is 'washed out'. It's hard to explain, but some pale complexion people do look great with dark hair.

Brunette suits me. I am too florid amongst my general paleness for red hair despite my freckles and me blonde is frankly terrifying. I once put a blonde wig on and answered the door to a mate who recoiled in horror with "what the fuck have you done to your hair?!". In other people I have no preference, although I have slept with more dark haired (including grey touches) people than any other hair colour. That's pure stats rather than an actual choice though.
