Can someone please enlighten us....

Seen a few profiles that say amp;amp in the description.

What the hell are they on about?

So, its basically people putting & & to suggest a much longer list of interests, or whatever, and it's coming up like html code for some reason?

& has special meaning in mark up languages like HTML (HyperText Markup Language). For this reason the correct way to write an ampersand in markup is &

Because it is a special character it is often 'escaped' when entered into a form, so once the '&' has been escaped (i.e. removed) you are left with "amp;".

I'm guessing this was a status update as the forum and profile text seem to 'properly' escape and render ampersands?
