Definitely black and white stand out. I've seen some nice ones which are whole body, dressed shots at a distance but you can just make out the features and body without being able to recognise them. I suspect that's more luck than a posed shot but worth a mention!

Clever/angled shots of your face or parts of your body always get my attention. Otherwise chest, bum, thighs, dressed in a nice suit/uniform. We don't mind not seeing your face on your profile as long as you're prepared to send one at some point.

Basically make an effort with your profile pic as it will be this that gets you noticed more than anything else to get to the point where someone even reads your messages.
