Just a quick question how often do you guys go to the sex clinic for tests we go every three months which we think is adequate. Read a couples profile early and they said every two weeks they are sti tested really !!!!

Every 3 months for me but I think the recommended is 6 monthly but obviously more for those who are more at risk due to promiscuity.

"To sound nieve. Why do you need to of you use condoms? "

Because condoms aren't 100% effective against all diseases and are 0% effective against things like genital warts.

"To sound nieve. Why do you need to of you use condoms? "

If you mean why do you go for tests when you can just usecondoms. There are also other things you can catch so it is good to have throat swabs etc etc. You can also catch things with use of condoms you know. Plus it puts one mind at rest and it's good safe practice don't want to go passing things to other people be mature about it !!

"To sound nieve. Why do you need to of you use condoms? "

Because condoms do not protect against everything. And not every still has symptoms. If you go along to your local clinic they can explain everything fully and give advice on how often they recommend testing. Be honest with them about numbers of partners, as to be tested for everything. It's great peace of mind.

My last test was may, I've not had so much as a snog since so no need to go again yet!

Every 3 months. To echo what others have said, condoms are not a 100% guarantee of protection so a regular test is so important if you meet people.

My local club has a sexual health nurse there every Wednesday for advice, testing and any jabs that need doing and I aim to see him every month. The fact he is gorgeous helps distract from the needles

Can I ask those who've been tested very regularly if they have ever tested positive for anything?

Am I right in thinking there's no real treatment for genital warts/herpes but that it isn't really harmful?

I get tested about every 6 months and before I have unprotected sex in any (new long term) relationship. Never had anything yet, touch wood. There is treatment for herpes and warts, herpes i think you can get creams for, and warts can be frozen or creamed. I caught the normal cold sore virus from someone using my cup and not washing it was very sick when I caught the virus, and I had a few cold sores since, but cured the last cold sore I had with garlic and have never had another one. I'm not sure if you can use garlic down south though! I cant imagine what it would be like having genital herpes, and anyone who does has my full sympathy.

not sure quite what your asking but even using condoms for penetrative sex.. there are still risks... and as I would rather go without than give oral with a condom although much smaller risk.. there is still a risk.

Also there is risk from group play just from cross contamination...

I may be misunderstanding this post but it sounds like your saying if you use condoms why do people need testing... in which case

False sense of security. They could have contracted something since,or had something that hadn't shown up in the most recent test. Thinking they are clear could make people take risks they wouldn't normally.

Every 3 months when we are active, our clinic is great too the nurse knows all about our lifestyle and quizzes us about the different clubs. She does the throat swab and let's me go to the toilet to do the vaginal. Pauls is straight forward too just a quick wee in a cup.

Always surprises me how many people don't get tested

No, the results are known only by the clinic and you. They will prescribe any treatment necessary without recourse to your GP.

Seems to be some confusion here.

You started off good but the last paragraph shows a little misunderstanding.

STI tests are like condoms (not 100% effective).

It is very possible for an STI to be incubating and not show up in a test therefore it is advisable to get regular tests even if you have not had a meet since the last test.

BTW we also suggest everyone being tested claim the play bareback. That way you are offered the full range of tests that some clinics reserve for those at high risk.

We get tested every 6-8 weeks

My test was the required time after last sex, to cover any incubation periods. Was tested 3 months prior, at the same times as the guy I was dating at the time, mays testing was after we broke up, I go as advised by the clinic, have the full works, and they're aware of my life style.

True. People are informed that the pill isn't 100% effective for contraception. Even my hysterectomy wasn't,I could still have had an ectopic pregnancy. Best thing is to take the precautions that are available.

Every 4-6 weeks, and if a condom breaks, a week after the incident. Then the 4-6 weeks will start from that date.

Always opt for a full screen including HIV.

You've veris for meets. Any of them could've had an STI that doesn't have symptoms. Condoms are not 100% effective in preventing infection. If you don't get tested, you could be walking round with an infection and not know it. Putting future meets at risk.

Valid point however you are assuming there was a need for a condom. Just a thought.. do you go to the std clinic each time you have an intimate meet

Ultimately going every eg 3 months doesnt mean you are free off std inbetween and one may have caught something inbetween and not know till next sti clinic date
