Ouch! I think some films get to you more with the atmosphere than any gore or violence. The Others scares the crap out of me and that's only a 12, I wouldn't watch it in the dark.

I remember being about 8 or 9,my folks were out and my sis was watching me and they had nightmare on elm street on video,not sure which one but it scared the shit out of me for obvious reasons. But by the time it got to number 5 & 6 they were just shit!

As an adult I've been freaked out but not scared shitless again thankfuly!!

Sorry I did mean to delete this thread mine was an American werewolf in London not because of the film but for the journey home. I was 15 and watched it at my mates house but when I went home it was dark the moon was out not a full moon and I heard a fox scream I shit myself and ran home.

Not a film.

Tales of the unexpected when I was about 8. Trilogy of terror.

It was about a woman who was left a tribal black magic doll as a gift by her pilot husband who was away. When it's belt came off when she was looking at it, it came to life.

It was the camera angles and seeing it in the background behind her. I had nightmares about that toothy little psycho for months.

There was a Stephen king film out when I was 12-13 or so, it was set in a creepy American "village" and there was a clock tower, I Remember there being a strange tentacle flesh colored monster or something. I Wish I remembered the film but it gave me nightmares for years. I think I might google all his films, find it and watch it again.

Just had a random memory while typing this: "sutter cain" I think was a character in it, that should narrow it down some what.

The Shining. Very clever film which busts many common scary film standards. There's no dark, shadowy bits, is all very brightly lit and no sinister, eery mood enhancing music. And those little twin girls, *shudder*

I know everyone has probably seen this by now, but if we could avoid blatantly giving away any more twist endings, that would be good. I'd hate for anyone to have a classic movie ruined for them.

"The Shining. Very clever film which busts many common scary film standards. There's no dark, shadowy bits, is all very brightly lit and no sinister, eery mood enhancing music. And those little twin girls, *shudder*"

gotta admit. The shining in its day was on a seriously limited budget due to the movie industry pouring it's money into the big Sci fi blockbusters (Blade runner was in production at the time, return of the jedi was set to hit the screen, tron was in its early financial stage) and Stanley Kubric had to rely on Acting and atmosphere, Jack nicholson admitted he almost drove himself insane getting into role but the highlight of that movie is the main office at the typewriter, "All work and no play makes jack a dull boy" the simple camera angles and rotating room angle set about a heart stopping tension that even now cgi and advanced camera motion couldn't replicate. x

But a film not mentioned the saw series I just cannot watch this,did try to once but I had to switch off,also the films where people miss there time either dying in a plane crash,a car smash on a motorway or the roller coaster but they all eventually die in other shit scary ways...can't remember the name of these trilogies

Most make me laugh. Any of the hidden camera/CCTV ones such as Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity etc, just make me howl with laughter.

I love the old Hammer House Horrors too, my Nan used to let me watch them when I was a kid. I have them all on DVD now.

Blair Witch was quite a good 'scary' horror movie.

The scene where they are stood in the corner, still fucks me up every time I watch it.

The 'new version / remake / whatever it is version' is out next week.

I have seen the trailer (doesn't mean it will be any good)

But I did see someone stood in a corner during the trailer.

Hopefully this is done correctly and still scares the shit out of me.

A little bit more recent and 'the conjuring' was quite a good scary movie.

With some interesting back stories that you would like to see. Pity Annabelle didn't quite live up to the premise that was set out in the conjuring.

For something different...

The Orphanage is a great horror movie.

Some great scary bits to the scene.

But also most probably the 'saddest' horror movie I have ever seen. Strange combination to have tears of sadness mixed with screams or jumps of scary fear (I am more of a jumper that screamer)

Worth checking out, but it is a Spanish horror.

The original 80's version of The Evil Dead is a a very good horror movie along with the premise of the original Candyman.
