"Darkness falls. I saw it when it came out about 15 yrs ago, with my sister who doesn't like scary films. It's only a 15 rating so didn't think it would be that bad, neither of us are scared of the dark, but when we came out, to the poorly lit car park that we were at the far end of having arrived several hours earlier, we ended up getting the security blokes to walk us to the car. " I've watched that just once, I won't watch it again as during the film a cat jumps out or something at one point, and I jumped so hard I punched myself in the chin and ended up with a fat lip...

I think some films get to you more with the atmosphere than any gore or violence. The Others scares the crap out of me and that's only a 12, I wouldn't watch it in the dark.

"Friday the 13th. Went to the cinema with my sister and her friends to see it. The ending, where he jumps out of the water to get the girl in the boat, was so unexpected every person in the place screamed and jumped out of their seats; including me. " Yeah, that was a classic moment. Wish I'd seen it at the cinema though. I watched it on Betamax video. Lucky you!

"The ghoul. Don Henderson scared the shit out of me. The wicker man. Always hate the ending where Edward Woodward gets burnt to death." I know everyone has probably seen this by now, but if we could avoid blatantly giving away any more twist endings, that would be good. I'd hate for anyone to have a classic movie ruined for them. As a kid, I was freaked out by the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers

"There was a Stephen king film out when I was 12-13 or so, it was set in a creepy American "village" and there was a clock tower, I Remember there being a strange tentacle flesh colored monster or something. I Wish I remembered the film but it gave me nightmares for years. I think I might google all his films, find it and watch it again. Just had a random memory while typing this: "sutter cain" I think was a character in it, that should narrow it down some what. " You're thinking of the John Carpenter movie In The Mouth Of Madness. Starred Sam Neill as a Stephen King type, and he ends up in his own books.

"The Shining. Very clever film which busts many common scary film standards. There's no dark, shadowy bits, is all very brightly lit and no sinister, eery mood enhancing music. And those little twin girls, *shudder*" gotta admit. The shining in its day was on a seriously limited budget due to the movie industry pouring it's money into the big Sci fi blockbusters (Blade runner was in production at the time, return of the jedi was set to hit the screen, tron was in its early financial stage) and Stanley Kubric had to rely on Acting and atmosphere, Jack nicholson admitted he almost drove himself insane getting into role but the highlight of that movie is the main office at the typewriter, "All work and no play makes jack a dull boy" the simple camera angles and rotating room angle set about a heart stopping tension that even now cgi and advanced camera motion couldn't replicate. x
