I have recently started making whips for martial arts use but I am thinking I could quite easily also make then for more 'fun' uses. Does anyone here have much experience using them sexually? If so, what negatives have you found with ones that you have bought that could be improved on and what do you look for in a whip?

Good quality materials. Well made. Bright and or colourful. A decent whip/flogger needs to last and be useful as well as look the part.

Or for hanging from my belt clip

Thanks!

I use genuine nylon 550 paracord for mine so very hard wearing and lots of colours. Done simple black and purple herringbone up to an 8 colour checkerboard effect mostly as snake whips with a couple of bull whips. I presume a shorter snake whip of around 3 to 4 feet is more useful than a 6 for bullwhip? Or does it depend on how much room you have??

I have one with a hanging loop and one with a wrist loop. They didn't seem to be too sought after in the martial arts world so good to know for other uses, thanks!

I think one of the key things I'm doing too is making them to last. So many I've seen to buy are really loosely plaited and seem to have just a rope core. I'm aiming for something more robust with good tight braiding and ball bearing and paracord cores.

Bearing core is really for the more extreme end of the market. Paracord would I think be more popular. Id make sure to tell people what they are buying. You are right that space does play a large part, Bullwhips tend to be used more outside unless you have access to a large hall. 4' snakes cover most options and 3' would also go down well. Quality is everything. Dragontails are also very popular as they make a good noise without much experience and they are nice and stingy

As the owner of some seriously blinged up floggers l find the colour of a whip the least inportant factor. It has to be well made, what does that mean to me? The stock must be durable and feel balanced.

It must have a cracker. Due to playing in confined spaces l prefer shorter whips.

If you are a member of fetlife there is a group dedicated to whips where you may be able to pick up some more info. Good luck

Good info and I will check that out, thank you. Balance is quite tricky to get right I've found but having now made about 20 I think I have it about right

Ooh dragon tails look fun. Will make that my next project. For martial arts it's ball bearings in the core down to the last few inches. I'm thinking for play then maybe just half of it for the weight to get it going but leave anywhere contacting as all paracord. Hmmm lots to experiment with!

Indeed

Sounds very interesting OP and I'd be interested in a shorter one. Space being the usual issue.

I know some kink creators use Etsy to sell stuff

I may be interested in a bearing tipped or full is bearing core, we like things a little extreme sometimes lol but 4' paracord snake whip would be of interest

I will have a play around with some styles and see how they look and feel. Seems like people know what they want with them so would be good for me to really understand the little changes I can make I'm designs and how they effect the whip overall. Lots seem to follow just certain patterns but I would rather know how to do more custom stuff to give people want they want. All good feedback thanks!

Interesting too regarding colours. In my head I for some reason thought darker colours and the likes of blacks and purples would be more desired. I will have to get on some of the shocking pink, lime green, acid yellow and the likes too!
