I'm sorry but this doesn't make any sense. Both Math and Maths are an abbreviation of Mathematics. The former is just slightly more abbreviated than the latter.

Americans still don't speak English properly, but that's beside the point.

Personally im studying physics and math at uni all my textbooks abbreviate it to math, all my lecturers abbreviate it to math so personally id say math is the correct abbreviation maths is just what the general population call it
