Would it be cheeky to ask for a guy to be on standby in case we get let down this coming Friday at a nice spa hotel on the Wirral. We were let down recently after we booked and paid for the room. Preferably a nice BBC

Yes and we would not do it . As you are a couple you would just use it yourself. We were let down by a single male when we had booked and paid for a hotel before so we decided not to book rooms ourselves again.

Having said that if you are happy to do it and the spare man is happy to be left hanging then why not.

I suppose I'd ask you how you would feel if you were put in the same situation...would you be willing to sit and wait for the nod having got ready for a meet that may or may not happen because you're second in line? why would you treat anyone like that?

I'm sure there are some men desperate enough to get laid that they will put their night on hold to be second choice should you get stood up

Personally I'd have more self respect.

just put a status up asking for someone to join you if you get let down.

if you're the type of person that needs to chat with someone first then make sure you spend some time chatting to plenty of guys when you can.

Agree withe feir. Don't see anything wrong if you're totally up front with people, they can only say no can't they. Status is a great idea, if someone agrees to it it's a bonus especially if you start of with little expectation in the first place.

I think its quite a reasonable request, I know myself what it feels like to book a room and be let down, and its even worst as a single man, absolutely ZERO chance of filling that space last min.

With the competition on here for single males I very much doubt any lady or cpl would take to kindly to be someones second choice, however for a cpl its a buyers market, as long as your honest and up front I cant see the problem, who know you could be there "Fall back" incase there meet is a no show???

As long as you make it clear beforehand I can't see a problem. After all if it offends the guy only needs say "no".

Apparently men line up play meets for after socials.

We wouldn't do it or agree to being the stand by but that doesn't mean it's wrong for others.

Hope it works out.

Be nice to 'bump' into a cpl. So you'd basically set ur wife up?

Your profile comes across as if it's all the male and unsure female.. Hope she doesn't wake up and smell the coffee one day

Good luck

Cheeky - yes. Wrong to ask - no.

Not for us, 'do you mind hanging on in case our first choice doesn't turn up, we'll settle for you if they don't'

That's how I read something like that.

With that being said, there will be takers who will do anything for that slim chance.

Of course if one was smart and had slightly loose morals you'd say something like:

"We are hoping to play this weekend but my wife is on call at work. We'll know by 8pm whether she has to go in or not. She probably will, so don't get too excited, but if we're free then would you like to meet?"

I hope I've mis-read this .

It sounds as if guys are being treated like throw away commodities.

U must be the most fantastic beautiful people on earth if u think people would sit by there phones incase u require them ..

If any guys are willing to do this then go and get some self respect.

Whatever happened to building a rapour before meeting and a social to see if u like the people first.

Rant over

If you tell them and they agree to be a reserve then go ahead. At group meets with 5 guys due I usually have 3 reserves.

I have had to call on all 3 sometimes as terrible, unavoidable and life changing things happen unexpectedly to guys who are due at group meets.

Can you be our substitute of another substitute if neither of the couples arrive for us? We would prefer it if you can sit in your car just down the road so we an arrive quickly if needed!

Think of it this way, would you like it if someone asked this of you?

Personally, we wouldn't. It's like saying, you're not our first choice but we'll make do, if we need to.
