It is in the same league as people referring to BBC on this site, l have known enough people both black and white use that phrase and fall for that stereotype. The question l always ask myself when dealing with a potential insult from anyone whether white or black and that is, are they deliberately trying to demean me or my race or are they through ignorance making cultural mistake. I have lived most of my life in parts of this country where black people are few and far between. People say and do stupid shit through ignorance. I am not going to rip someone a new @sshole for trying to be friendly even though their comments or behavior make me wince.

The issues important for me are the high rate of incarceration of blacks in prison. The low academic achievement of young black men. The negative stereotypes in the media and the music industry of black manhood, the black lives matter campaign. Also the fact that many white people feel they have a raw deal through immigration in this country and Brexit has allowed a lot of negativity to resurface. Seriously, l can't be bothered about a woman with an ace of spades tattoo attempting to show solidarity. I have known a few women who have that tattoo and they have been lovely women who would be mortified if it was interpreted as slur on black men. So yes l understand your point and l accept that in principle some people find it wrong. But in my view l would be more interested in stereotypes that hold black people back. But l hasten to add l understand and respect your position fairly put, but in this imperfecf world l find it low in my priorities of things to get upset about. I have been called worse and to my first.

In the gay scene guys have different coloured hankys and different pockets

It's because its their code for what their preference is..

So why would anyone be offended

To be honest it is slightly more complicated. By coincidence a few months ago l looked up the slang meaning of 'spade' and back in the day it was a derogatory word for a black man and one of a number of words, including 'darky' that was interchangeable for the 'N' word.

So Calligyrous point was, if a women had a 'N' lover tattoo on her how would that go down.

My own view, like yours is that people using the tattoo do not know the insulting use of spade and are just saying they are open to being approached by the right black man. So although a reasonable intelligent black person could find it insulting l hope they would realise none was intended as things done in the street do not always play well to the inteligentsia, and that is my point.
