So last night Mrsdpt went to meet a couple on her own, they'd booked a hotel.

We all went out for some drinks and I left them to it after a couple, when they got to the hotel they were refused entry as a three.

I'm putting it down to it being 2am and they thought Mrsdpt was staying over and they would of been fine at say 8pm.

In her true style Mrsdpt told the guy on reception she wasn't staying over and he was being a real cockblock

Anyone had anything similar?

Yes. Exactly the same thing happened to me.

I think it's a particular type of hotel that does it.

If it's full of stag parties and people staying for a night on the town, or has a bouncer rather than a doorman, they can get rather funny.

yeah ive had it before

hotels have rules though and being rude to the staff wont get them to bend them

I feel sorry for the couple missing out on the Mrs! I think in this case it was the timing of when they were trying to get to the room. Earlier in the evening it would have gone without remark. I find most hotels are not interested provided you are not a nuisance. Better luck next time.

We booked a family room once, the room was for four people and there was four of us but we was still stopped from going in, even though it had been paid for

Reason being they said family room was for two adults and two kids

I pulled up their site to show them nowhere does it say four adults couldnt book a four person room but they still wouldn't let us in

I've met a couple in a hotel before, never even raised an eyebrow.

Said hello to the receptionist on the way in and walked straight through.

When you deal with as many dick heads as I do it's not surprising...school girl error though not splitting up the girls together then matey popping in a few mins later

Have found its happening more and more!

Some friends and I tried to take some guys back to our room for naughtiness in Manchester a few weeks ago. They were refused by the reception and doorman/security (they had lots). The guys were so keen they booked a room themselves so we could get together - bless them!

As it seems to be happening more and more that may have to be the answer unfortunately - but it will obviously make hotel meets very expensive! Xx

Who would wait until 2am to get you in to a hotel room?

Never had an issue with the hotel chains and one or two smaller hotels. That said I'm usually in bed long before 2 am

If you'd been out for a meal and a few drinks/dancing perhaps people who do that before going straight in for the fun?

Lots of hotels have an issue because they need to know how many guests they have for fire safety reasons. The budget ones/ones with keyboard access to the lifts are super keen because people try to overload the room so they pay the cheapest price.

Look for rooms that are 3 occupancy (travel wotsit and premier wotsit have those) or look for rooms with two double beds because you can have four in those.

Check out apartments, but check to make sure they don't have an on-site reception (it'll say in the description on sites like Booking wotsit or if the reviews mention key boxes or a lack of staff).

And look out for motel style hotels where the rooms open to the outside or big hotels with more than one restaurant, a gym that non-residents can use or annexes.

And yes, you can generally have visitors to your room (except the really budget ones who are really hot on that) before about ten.

2 keys. Insist on 2 keys and these can be used to manage access without raising any unnecessary suspicion
