House meet etiquette

Going to a house meet tomorrow for the first time, a bit hesitant but gagging (!) at the same time.

Don't want to offend the hosts, but would like to take a gift. That's OK, isn't it?

What else should I ensure I do, or don't do?

What makes you want to take a gift? Is it something that's come up in conversation with the person(s) you're meeting? Do you feel like you should or have to take something? I ask because it seems a bit odd to me, although mine is just one opinion so don't take it as gospel by any means!

In general just be nice, friendly, yourself, like you would (hopefully ) usually. Unless you've made arrangements for anything else to happen when you arrive, then that's all you can do really. Try not to overthink it, and have fun!

Have a shit before hand. Last thing you want to do is block their toilet.

Perhaps he could turn up with a plunger as a gift.

I'd always bring something if I was meeting in someone's house.

I've fab friends that bring bickies to mine if they're just coming in for a cuppa..

So bring a bottle of whatever you fancy and some sweeties or something like that.. Doubt you'll insult the hosts.

About a decade ago, we had a meet come to our house with a cheap bottle as a gift, we smiled and thanked them. I think we took it to a party a few weeks later.

[TBH, we're a bit more sophisticated now, and don't think we could bring ourselves to take a bottle of Lambrini or a 1.5l bottle of Soave to a meet!]

It's the thought that counts!

Etiquette for bringing wine is that it's a gift for the host and as such is not expected to be opened for the gifter to have a taste of the gift too.

I find a 6 pack of ski strawberry yogurts is the perfect gift in these situations. Closely followed by a bag of sugar and some Jaffa cakes

We've always taken a half decent bottle of wine, always a nice ice breaker of sorts.

Me too

I just think it's good manners

Nothing to do with sex, if somebody invited me over to their house for anything like cooking me a meal, watching a film etc I'd take a bottle of something but that's just me

To some people its just a way of saying thank you for opening their home up to them

I'm not talking expensive fancy gifts just a token bottle of wine so something similar

For me its just manner which a lot loose when 'its only a fuck'

You treat it exactly the same as if you were going to someone's house for a vanilla party. So yes of course you should take something like a bottle of wine.

We don't expect anything when people visit us, and don't generally take anything with us either.

I've never turned up at anyone's home, friend, family, playmate etc without a gift. Something my parents always did.

What's a bottle of wine - I think creates the right impression

And just sometimes breaks the ice for that first couple of seconds.

Just where I need to be.

I get cake and then teased when I don't share.

I always bring a gift to friends whether it's wine or something homemade.

I take a bottle of wine - it just seems polite to me. If they know I am coming straight from work, I've had dinner cooked for me, which helps with the blood-sugar levels! Some people are only on here for a shag and it is a question of in, shag, home. I don't go back in those cases, but you can't know until you get there. Sadly.
