Excuse not to meet - unbelievable

By (user no longer on site) OP

The time for a meet slipped by without any contact from the couple. I left it an hour or so before texting them asking what time they'd be at the pub for our social before any action, if any.

More time went by and no reply, so I drank up and went home.

Got a text from them the next day to say sorry but they'd had the decorators painting the outside of the house that afternoon & didn't want to leave because one had asked if he could use the microwave to heat up his dinner later. They didn't want the chap to go without his meal!

What a load of bollocks eh.

I mentioned this to another couple I'm in contact with, they asked the couple's name and when I told them they said that they had had exactly the same experience with that couple.

Well that's another couple added to the block list! lol

Time for some fun now, so come on fellow fabbers, let's have some of the most unbelievable excuses for not turning up for a meet.

That's crap. Hope you had a nice drink OP.

We had a couple where the woman texted me to say her gran died so she didn't think they'd be able to make it. Only a few minutes later the guy mailed saying they couldn't wait for the meet.

Seems they got their stories mixed up. They did turn up though. A memorable meet but for bad reasons.

I don't know if this is classed as an excuse or not.....

I'd posted I was going to Marmaris 13-17 July..... I'd spoke about meeting up with a couple, no contact till the very last night. There was an attempted coup on the Friday night, the road between us was blocked..... and my designated driver was crapping himself. The government and all the travel industry were saying stay in your hotels. I asked twice if it was a social or a social and fun.... No answer. So I didn't go..... who here would have gone??

Sorry to hear that OP - I feel for you and it's a twattish thing for them to do not to even cancel in advance.

Sadly I've had no 'no-shows'. I feel I'm missing out on the 'no-show horror stories' on the forums - hopefully my next meet will welch on me with a fanciful story so I can properly join in

Let's meet. You book the hotel and I promise I'll be there. Just make sure there's flowers and champagne waiting for me. I won't be paying towards it of course, I'll already be paying for the bus fare into town and for a new razor to do my bits

Norwich to Great Yarmouth (by river)

We arranged to meet a couple for a first "social" meet by the river in a very picturesque part of the Norfolk Broads. We arrived on time and after the appointed hour came and past with no sign of our friends, Mr FF drove into the village to get a mobile signal were he immediately received a text from the male to say "Can't come... Daughter involved in a serious car accident and Mrs now rushing to the hospital.... I am free though if you still want to meet?".

We left and never heard from them again!

1. Verify potential meets to the point of rudeness.

2. Meet somewhere you'd be happy to go anyway.

3. Leave if they're more than 5 minutes late.

4. Kill them and their whole family.

(4. is optional)

Someone I use to meet regularly never use to show up. He never gave me an apology or an excuse. The second time it happened I didn't hold my breath and already had another potential meet, because part of me knew it was going to happen.

Saying that we did meet several times, so he wasn't always a no show.

I have however had some cock bull excuses that then go and post a verification and then message expecting you to meet them. Ummm....?? Seriously? How can they just openly lie when the evidence is right there? I mean do they seriously think we are that stupid?

I havenever had a no show. I think that is because normally I spend ages getting to know somebody online before meeting them. If get an inkling hey may be a timewwatser I never ask to meet.

One couple I meet did tell me once about a no show they had. They guy they were meeting canceled about an hour before the meet was supposed to happen. He claimed he was very unwell and in bed. When they looked at his profile the next day they saw he had been a meet the day before. They knew he had been on a meet because he displayed a verification from the meet. How stupid must that guy have been lol.

I set up an FFM for us and he told me (after me and the other girl had been waiting at her place an hour) he couldn't make it as had a 'lung infection'. I had a "social" meet planned. 1hr 15 mins before I got a text saying she was in Redditch Hospital.... By a weird co-incidence I was on my way home via Redditch.

So I thought "sod it"..... I'll call in the hospital and ask for her. Bugger me but it was true! She was in a ward, on a bed, waiting for the consultant!

We did meet several more times including going to a couple of parties before she decided fab wasn't for her (I think she went back to her ex).

Anyone else had such a bad excuse that was true? Or had a first meet in a more odd place?

This is actually true !

Had one who 'remembered that she had to pick up her daughter' , one who said she'd had her cooker go on fire, and one who answered the door and pretended to be a 'twin' who knew nothing about Fab. The last one was the freakiest...the first two were nothing more than excuses I think, both within half an hour of the meet happening. The incident with the twin still has me wondering if I was set-up, she was set-up or what...I still haven't been able to make sense of it, and as usual the profile vanished from the site (despite it having been on for quite a while and having a couple of veris). Fab is very often FAR stranger than real life.

"Had a 'regular' (didn't last long) who would text to cancel as i was driving there claiming to be too tired. He would then text at 1am asking me to go over. Used to tell him to fuck off. I set up an FFM for us and he told me (after me and the other girl had been waiting at her place an hour) he couldn't make it as had a 'lung infection'. Veri popped up next day stating he had met a MF couple instead. Very odd for a straight guy. That was the end of that"

Many straight guys have MFM. It's not in the least bit odd. Rude of him though

I met a guy once who pulled up at our arranged meeting place, looked at me and drove off

At least you got half an hour

I was meant to meet a couple at theirs, started getting ready... A few hours had past then I received a message... Sorry can't do tonight we're off to the pub to watch football, but I've got a friend who says she's interested in meeting you but she's not on the site ..this from the female half.....

Safe to say I ignored, deleted and blocked.

Had a single male not turn up for a meet, 2 hours later he messaged and apologised, said he had offer of another meet and decided to meet her instead 'but she wasn't my type and I decided to ditch her to see if you were still free'

Needless to say he received a few choice words.

"I had a "social" meet planned.

This is actually true !"

I believed every word of that upto the point you said she was "waiting for the consultant".

Everyone who follows the news knows all the consultants have already legged it from Redditch.

Norwich to Great Yarmouth (by river)

Gotta add this... It is something that still sticks in my craw (whatever that is)!

On two separate occasions we have a arranged a weekend-long meet with two different couples whom we had made from FAB and who had become close friends ... I went to great lengths planning the weekend fun, food, drinks and general atmosphere.

On the two occasions that I refer to, the other couples contacted us just before they were due to arrive on the Friday night to warn us that due to "family circumstances" they would be no longer be able to stay on the Saturday night. No problem we said and we had a great Friday evening with them...

They then left on the Saturday morning and on Sunday posted a verification from another couple they had met on Saturday evening!!

The amazing thing is, in both cases the couple our friends met with was the same couple! We did begin to wonder if that couple were in fact "stalking" us and "poaching our friends?!!!

"Well mine was my excuse but totally true but sounds unbelievable......I was getting ready to go on a hotel meet just as I was about to leave my daughter says .....mummy iv just swallowed 2p .......ended up spending the night at AE .......needless to say the guy thought I was a complete liar n time waster

Imagine if he messaged you later while you were in A&E - probably would have been something like this:

"How's your daughter after swallowing that 2p"?

"No change yet"!

Sorry, couldn't help it, my terrible humour!"

Had a no show on Friday night. Had been messaging most of the day and planned a late night meet at mine. It's not often I have all the kids out on sleepovers at the same time so was mighty pissed off when the messaging went quiet yet all messages had been read!!

If they bottle it, I'd rather they just say it instead of screw up people's night's. However there was a message from a lovely lad that came as promised last min and totally made the no show worth it!

Had one on the couple account, early days before we started doing socials first....we'd been chatting on kik to the guy for a few days, his profile pic on kik was his little lad.

Anyway, come the meet night he says he can't make it as he short notice had to watch his kid. As 'proof' he said he's just this minute taken a pic of his lad to show he was genuine, and sent us the pic that had been his profile pic all along. Numpty.
