Are they the same or different?

Different.

LGBT is a sexual orientation, swinging is a sexual practice.

Odd question.

I totally agree with you. I raise the question because it came up in another thread in the club's section and I thought it deserved it's own thread here.

I'm confused

How is somebody's sexuality the same as swinging

All because your gay, lesbian etc that does not mean you don't want monogamous relationship

Very strange question. You don't have to be LGBT to swing. You don't have to be a swinger to be LGBT.

I don't understand the question.

LGBT are orientations (or on the case of trans a recognised medical diagnosis). All things a person is.

Swinging is an activity, something a person does.

Swingers might be LGBT or might be cis-gendered and straight.

Hull but travel regularly

I'm LGBT and the way I meet those needs is through swinging. Different but intrinsically linked for some

Because on the whole swinging is a choice rather than something that is predetermined.

I'm not so sure. I have always been happier with multiple partners than with one. Sure, I could choose to stay with one guy but I wouldn't be happy.

Obviously I haven't had years of threatened violence against me, but I do have to hide my lifestyle and desires from friends, family, and workmates.

Is swinging a choice?

If it is a choice then the null hypothesis has to be that non swinging, ie monogamy is the natural state for a human.

So are we all monogamous and just choose to swing, ie swinging is not normal?

"Are people killed for being swingers? I'm pretty sure there's lots of places in the world where you're persecuted for being LGBT"

Plenty of places were swinging would get you killed. I believe stoning is the preferred method. Tends to fall under adultery laws.

Although I can't fathom why some people want to play who is the worse victim game when things go wrong for certain groups.

Would you go to a pride event and say cheer up at least your not all disabled, etc....

But I guess it's human nature to want to have a go at someone, even if it's just to say you're not as badly treated as we are.

But that's my point. I would not compare. Just seems tasteless to do so.

I can accept someone has had a shitty day at work, without resorting to comparisons of their day to some poor sod in Iraq that has just been blown to pieces.

I can accept that those swingers exposed in the sun have effectively been ousted and their kids may get bullied at school because of this and others may lose work and family and friends without saying but cheer up there is always someone else worse off.

Being a TV is a choice and acting on urges to have sex with people of the same gender is a choice too.

Life is full of choices. But it is your choice. As long as your choice will not harm children, animals or non concenting adults you should not be persecuted for that choice.

Some very backward thinking in such an enlightened community.

Sexual activity and sexual orientation aren't the same thing. You may choose to act upon your sexual urges but that doesn't change your sexual orientation. In the act the choice resides but it will never change who you are
