Battle of the Somme

Thoughts are with the brave men and women who gave there lives to fight for our country including my great grandfather who died with staggering amounts of people.Only for future generations and governments to let them down and for what they stood for.The morals they had and passion for this country and being proud to be English which has sadly slowly disappearing to be turning into something today they would not approve of,they would be turning in there graves they way the country has gone and the morals of some of the English folk today.R.I.P and thank you for everything

It's not the 100 year anniversary until next week. No women went over the top. Future generations and governments haven't let them down, as I doubt the 57,200 or so casualties would have conceived of today's society and so would have had no expectations of what has or should have happened. They were soldiers and probably had no difference in morals to anyone else, past or present. Also, it is not a given that they had passion for their country, most people joined up because their friends did. Some may have been proud to have been English, but there were also Welsh, Scots, Irish, Canadians, ANZACS, Indians and so on.

They may or may not be turning in their grave, but I daresay some would be turning in their grave at you hijacking their deaths to make a point about your belief in modern society.

yes I'm fully aware of it thank you for the piece of worthless information and women played a big role in the battle at home and in the forces im not concerned with other nationalities in it just the one I'm from and taking about thank you,and the elderly people I know are certainly disgusted the way things have changed,I very much doubt they are and my belief is shared by many hence why in this day and age we are taking about immigration and other issues echoing Enoch Powell and many others before him of the bad times ahead I think they would be proud to see a few of us who are proud for what they done for us and they fought to keep England English it depends on the background and the history you have in your blood and being a man #done

All the opinions above aside I've been to the Somme and I was shocked at how close the trenches actually are to each other, we see it in television and films and the no mans land appears to be hundreds of yards wide where in reality in places the troops could have thrown the bullets at each other never mind shooting them
