Just noticed in the news that ICANN has given approval for the .xxx (like .com) to be issued out to the sex industry. Naturally there are those that are for and against such a move as is proven by the 10 years it's taken to go ahead with it.

Will this be a good thing?

It will make it easier to filter out sites you don't want kids looking at, but will it force the whole thing underground again?

Its use is voluntary, and I cannot imagine existing sites changing their web address to be honest.

In an ideal world, all adult content porn, swing sites etc would be required to operate under a .xxx or something similar. It would be far easier that way to stop under 18's getting access to it since it would just mean blocking the .xxx suffix on your home router so none of the sites would get through.

Unfortunatly the American church goers have been lobbying against it since it's inception. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Some people are incredibly short sighted lol

Having the .xxx suffix might well attract new traffic so there'll probably be instances of (just as an example) sites like Fab registering and promoting www.fabswingers.xxx and using DNS to direct all traffic to www.fabswingers.com (the existing site).

That way you get the benefit of any additional traffic + you avoid a carpetbagger registering and using the .xxx version for their own commercial activities on the back of Fab's popularity.
