"If you really want to impress, make it from scratch, with egg yolks, double cream, milk, sugar, vanilla pods, caster sugar and cornflour, or one of the other variations. Just make sure you follow the procedures carefully, or you'll end up with scrambled egg. " Our kinda person going the extra mile where food is involved makes a huge difference.

"custard powder is flammable Dare I ask how you know? H." Quite a lot of powders are flammable, even just regular flour. Try blowing a small amount onto a candle and it will give you a big explosive flame. Thats one of the reasons why there are so few windmills left. Lots of flour dust floating about, one spark and the whole thing exploded.

"custard powder is flammable Dare I ask how you know? H." It's an old physics classroom demonstration. Blowing custard powder down a tube sealed into the side of a large tin with a candle in it and the lid pushed on. The flash of the custard powder igniting will blow the lid off.... A large custard tin is actually ideal as it happens....I'm sure you'll find a video of this on the web.

It goes without saying that the ingredients are sourced locally from independent shops, organic and British, eggs from free range chickens, but for a special occasion, use duck, ostrich or quail.
