hey all...I know this makes me out to be a really miserable OLD git....

But has anyone noticed that so many profiles, or messages, are almost unreadable now, due to the way words are written?

I'm not sure it's even text speak any more. It's just really bad spelling, plus some text speak, plus really bad grammar.

I, bu no means, claim to be perfect at spelling or grammar; but I at least make an effort.

It's not just younger members too....and sadly, probably wrongly maybe, it puts me off.

Does anyone else feel like this, or am I turning in to Victor Meldrew?

It doesn't annoy me but if a person is unable to put a sentence together then it is not likely to tempt me to meet them.

I am not a pedant as far as grammar or spelling is concerned but sometimes we get messages that are appalling. Whether the writer is too lazy to write something legible or simply to stupid really doesn't make a difference to me.

I hate it. I kind of get it from the very young on the site but it usually just astounds me how people my age and over can write huge sentences that I have to google to understand.

I don't mind the odd lol haha or omgoshh. But once I got a message that was 3 sets of random letters. I think it was offensive after I said no to him. But to this day I have zero clue what offence he caused

We are not really bothered by the level of education that a potential meet has. We want sex not an English lesson.

Very true but good sex is more than just the size of a guys cock. It involves imagination, fantasy and personality and if he shares the same IQ as a plank of wood then its not attractive.

In any case most people are not looking to meet a rocket scientist just someone who can spell their own name would be good.

We tend to take the view that if someone is sloppy in the way they compile a message or write their profile, then they probably have a sloppy approach in general. Can't see us getting on well with someone who writes in text speak, or has an excessive amount of bad grammar or spelling mistakes. Unfortunately I get really put off when reading a profile and it's riddled with grammar and spelling mistakes. With many Internet browsers and smartphones having spell check built it, I don't see why there should be any. Don't like using acronyms too much; would rather use smileys.

Saying that, when I've typed a message out too quick and I haven't proof-read it, I have made a few mistakes! I've emailed the person again and apologised for my atrocious first message - it's impressed and actually got me meets!

I don't think that a properly spelt and grammatically correct message is necessarily noticed to be so by those who proliferate not only this site, but other fora, social media and notice boards...

Using long words does confuse and nark people. I've had unpleasant messages in the past when I've been using dating sites because of my use of language!

You're telling me!!! The abbreviations employed by those using 'textspeak' puzzle me sometimes. Luckily, I have an 18 year old son who's up to date with them!

I once had a text exchange with a highly intelligent and astute friend who's a GP and was aghast at her abbreviations, many of which took me a while to work out!
