We wouldn't give out our number. We use Kik and if it was a real issue would briefly Skype to prove who we are.

In a relationship most likely. Pretty much any phone now can block people so you'd only keep your number secret if you didn't want someone else seeing messages to it that you shouldn't be getting. Don't sweat it!

Sometimes I will give out my number, others I haven't. Maybe I have been lucky, but you can confirm a lot more in a phone call than you can by messaging.

Done that but he's rather clever and uses literally any phone he can up and down the country ... yes I know I could change my number however it's used for buisness so not as simple

they still know your number and can get a new number themselves though. only way to be sure of getting rid of someone is to change your own number.

If anyones is nervous about speaking on the phone, simple & obvious texts per meet or en route then they're going to make themselves look a bit suspect.

It doesn't stop there. Some wont chat one phone, wont show who they are, wont give an address yet hand over post code with the advice to mail them via here once you've arrived lmfao.

Some people must think others are as daft as them or no clue what they make themselves come across as. Then wonder why they struggle for meets.

We never give out our number, so according to some we must be messers.

We have had people refuse to meet because we wouldn't swap numbers, ironically we had been verified as genuine by more meetings in person than they have.

So who in this scenario is the messer?

Like anything else there is no substitute for common sense, and a phone number is no more proof of sincerity than any other means of verification.

Don't most people have a "fab" phone? (Actually I don't..but as a single guy I dont give a shit who has my number). Generally I have the number of most people I've met. Some have now become friends...others if I don't intend to meet again, then I would never consider contacting them again!

Really? We're not any of the above, but have enough phones between personal and work ones. Everyone has their own requirements but we think we're plenty open enough without being required to provide our phone numbers.

Yes but we'd rather not waste our precious time sitting around hpoing someone we have never spoken to on the phone is genuine and turns up. 99% of so called 'couples' where the female half won't say hello to the other female on the phone are timewasters (males collecting pics to wank to) with no active female half. If someone is so concerned about giving out their phone number then just get a second £20 cheap or pay as you go 'fab phone' and away you go !

Me I'm happy to give my number if required or not if not. Not fussed either way.

On her account my wife would refuse totally to swap numbers. If you Google her number you'd get business address home address the lot so not gonna happen.

I've had a couple initiate contact with me. Said they wanted to speak with me on phone as a requirement. I said no problem. Only they wanted me to give them my number but not them give me theirs. Their requirements they should have sent the number first.

Many people prefer not giving a number out. It does not mean they aren't genuine. It just means they prefer not to.

I think there isn't a better way to gauge what someone is actually like that talking to them. I'd hope that that's something everyone would think was pretty important.

I don't mind if people give me a ring from a withheld number to start with. And I have never sent or reviewed a call at 3 o'clock in the morning as a result of exchanging numbers.

Having a phone number is no guarantee someone will turn up, I can think of at least three occasions where we've swapped numbers and they didn't turn up, one guy had even insisted on a phone call, maybe he didn't like my voice

One thing everyone should be aware of is if you're on Facebook and your number is linked to it then the person who has your number will get a message asking do they know this person. So more of your private info is exploited. If you're saying well have a secondary number then that's not exactly being genuine either is it.

Why on earth are you not genuine if you have a second phone? I have one specifically for this lifestyle as I want to keep it separate and having nearly sent a naughty photo to a family member with the same name as someone on here thought it was a good idea!

We would never meet without a chat first. Particularly when its a couple where we can speak to both.

Having bought a cheap pre paid phone for this purpose there are absolutely no security concerns.

If on the big night someone is lost or running late then the problems are easily solved.

I have given out my number twice and on both occasions ended up being bombarded

one women ended up stalking me for 6 months and made me leave her for a few months - it was a nightmare

the other was a guy - I'm bisexual - and he went even further and kept turning up where I parked my car at work

So my policy is simple really - first meet agree social only at mutually agreed location and see how things go
