also opening your throat out helps - as if you are stiffling a yawn

alternatively, find a guy who likes to make people gag lol

It does take practice but I learnt how to do it within a couple of days and I have a terrible gag reflex. (So bad that I have almost thrown up on my dentist on several occasions!!)

You need to open your throat up and relax, tell yourself that you aint gonna hurl!!

Doing it with your head hanging off the bed or on your knees in front of him are good positions but I found that when learning, the 69 position with you on top is better as his cock will naturally curve down your throat. Get in the right frame of mind and just go for it! You will get further and further every time.

Dildos are a bit too hard though, its easier with a cock, just take your time and totally relax. Its no good the guy trying to force it in your mouth, that will just make u tense up and there is no way its going down your throat!
