No I wouldn't go if need be... I go regardless on a regular basis. I tell them I have had various sexual partners, if I have been to a swinging club and anything else which may help them decide what tests I should have.

At the risk of pedantry.

Everyone ought to go on a regular basis but that shouldn't stop anyone going when need be eg if a symptom appears between regular check-ups.

At which point I said. "Oh I doubt it very much..."

Pmsl brilliant. We have both just been following recent forum posts about this and thinking yes we really should. Takes a bit of getting used to but once you've decided to go no point in lying , they're there to help.

The nurse that I had was hot as well lol - mrs notts !!

I go to Boots in my lunch break. So easy to do, everyone who swings should consider testing.

I told them I was a swinger and they also offered me the Hep B jab and various different condoms/femidoms to try.

I always ask for latex free though so no excuses from guys about latex intollerence (heard all the excuses before!)

I go every 3 months and must admit that I take pleasure in making them fill all the boxes in, until they have a light bulb moment and ask what I do.

Last check up the doctor gave me a talking to about HIV and infection rates. More fun giving him some fact and figures back with regards to the recent Vienna Conference on the said subject.

Yes I go to get checked up but at the moment it's only oncce every six months, I should really go that extra to get it done twic more each year.

Interesting though, whan I was in Devon and Cornwall, most of the nurses I saw at the hospital were swingers and a lot of swingers were nurses, we just said hello and got on with the business in hand.

Oh yes they do!

I had it done on wednesday. Not a nice feeling.

Me and A came out with a goodie bag of lube, condoms and dams. The swinging subject was mentioned. But it makes no difference to them.

Hmmm, the number of times I have had comments from, mostly, new'ish, young'ish guys on here, like : "No-one is going to shove things down my jap's eye" and " I aim to never visit the GUM clinic" and " I have only ever been in long term relationships" and " I have not started swinging yet"!

It seems to me that some people would rather bury their heads in the sand than take reasonable care of themselves.

I wish there was a section, easily found by new people registering on Fab, which outlined the facts and risks of multiple-partner-sex so they realise that check-ups should be part of the life style.

But sometimes theres a lot of it will never happen to me attitude!

Is there a FAQ part of the site?

If there is we haven't seen it.

Here's some information that was presented at the Vienna Conference last year.

HIV - The over-50s infection rate in England, Wales and Northern Ireland more than doubled in under a decade - from 299 new cases in 2000 to 710 in 2007.

In 2008 there were 7,382 new diagnoses - 8% of these were in the over-50s, says the Health Protection Agency. Experts say the figures are a stark reminder of the importance of practising safe sex, whatever your age.

Other sexually transmitted infections have shown a similar doubling in under a decade among the same age group, and have been rising at a faster rate than in the young.

Lisa Power, of the HIV charity the Terrence Higgins Trust, said their own research had found the over-50s were now the fastest growing group of people with HIV in the UK.

Made very interesting reading, and just shows the importance of taking your sexual health seriously.

Are those figures broken down anywhere by sexuality?

I suppose it's on the web somewhere but it'd be interesting to know how much of the increase is amongst the male homosexual and bi-sexual communities.

"intersting to know???, you wouldn't be looking for someone to blame by any chance would you??? "

I think I know exactly who to blame if someone gets an STI or HIV or whatever.

The paragraph "Other sexually transmitted infections have shown a similar doubling in under a decade among the same age group, and have been rising at a faster rate than in the young." is worthy of investigation too.

Doubling could mean just about anything from 1 case doubling to 2 or 1,000,000 cases doubling to 2,000,000 or worse.

If you wish to read the key findings of the report presented go to:

www.library.nhs.uk/INFECTIONS/ViewResource.aspx?resID=331512&tabID=290

A brief breakdown for HIV is

New diagnoses among men who have sex with men (MSM) remained high (2,760); four out of five probably acquired their infection in the UK.

Of the people newly diagnosed in 2009, 1,130 probably acquired their infection heterosexually within the UK, accounting for a third of heterosexuals diagnosed.

One in six MSM, and one in sixteen heterosexuals newly diagnosed with HIV had acquired their infection within the previous 4-5 months before diagnosis.

I'll see if I can find the report with regards to the other sexually transmitted infections.
