Messages read but not deleted

Ok so I get that couples and women in particular get hundreds of messages and need to filter them out.

What I never quite understand is when a message is read but not deleted but also not replied to either.

Obviously people might want to take their time before deciding whether to reply but I've seen some messages left read and not deleted or replied for weeks even though the recipient had been online regularly.

My question is what is the thinking behind this? Is it a test to see if I am genuinely interested and should message again or a test to see if I'm someone who will message again and again (I don't BTW)?

It isn't a test at all, it's probably because they haven't got round to deleting.

they didn't reply is the important bit.

sometimes people bulk delete messages after a while, sometimes people are gonna reply back but forget, all kinds of reasons but none of them are that they were interested enough to reply as soon as they read them.

Maybe it's a terrible conspiracy against you and only just to mess with your head because they knew it would give you sleepless nights worrying about it lol

Brighton - even Hove!

You can't know their reasons so don't bother trying to second guess. Send and forget. Don't bother looking to see if they've read it. Concentrate your energy on positive things not the negatives.

My message folders are very neat and tidy, I delete after a while anything not ongoing, and delete previous iterations of the conversation as I go along.

My wife leaves everything as is, after she's read it, she lets it fall down the list until it disappears off the end.

As others have said the important part is whether you got a reply or not.

The person receiving can't tell if you deleted the sent message from your outbox, so to avoid your own frustrations any introduction messages you send out you're best deleting straight away then any replies you get are a happy bonus and you don't have to sit fretting about what they've done with it

Delete your sent file, concentrate on what you can control not what you can't

I delete en masse.

Bit obsessive/stalkerish behaviour no?

It means I haven't got round to deleting. I wait til the guy goes offline so I don't get abuse or a passive aggressive follow up message.

North Wales

We also periodically bulk delete any that don't float our boats. Any that are particularly rude or offensive will get binned right away tho.
