"Are you the driver?"

Completely off topic, but I've often wondered, do train drivers know how many passengers that have at any one time in a train?

NO, they dont need to know, however normally the staff a number count on the train, but as you know most trains are over crowded and ignore the safety rules they are suppose to abide by.

You need to check who is mobile near by.

If somebody remains within a mile there is a good chance they are on your train

No train driver or conducter would ignore a safety issue. It boils my piss when people make claims without knowing what they're talking about.
